Tom Cruise, the actor known for his death-defying stunts and his passion for action movies has indeed created a reputation for himself throughout the years. Although Cruise is famous for creating blockbusters, not all actors are friendly with him.
Back in the late 1980s, the duo of Bill Murray and Tom Cruise were bound to collide in the 1988 film Rain Man. Due to some unknown reasons, Murray did not even read the script and refused to work in the movie. The details were revealed by the film’s screenwriter Barry Morrow and Murray passed up on the opportunity.
When Bill Murray Did Not Want To Work With Tom Cruise
Back in the day, Cruise was admittedly gaining fame and recognition rapidly worldwide. Known for his iconic roles and deadpan delivery, Bill Murray was already a big hotshot in 1988 when he was approached with the script of the movie Rain Man.
For reasons unknown, it was revealed that Bill Murray did not even read the script and had no interest in the movie. In a 2018 interview with Yahoo, the screenwriter of the film Barry Morrow talked about the casting of the film. As per the reports, it seems that Dustin Hoffman, the lead role in the movie was the first one to commit to the film while Bill Murray did not even read the script!

In the interview, Barry Morrow stated that the scripts were sent simultaneously to Dustin Hoffman and Bill Murray but Hoffman was the only one who actually read the script and replied.
“Dustin was the first person to commit to the project. [The script] was sent to him and Bill Murray simultaneously by Mike Ovitz at CAA … I think what I heard was that Bill Murray just didn’t read the script and Dustin did. Dustin called and marked his territory,”
With Hoffman and Tom Cruise in the lead roles, Rain Man went on to earn big at the Oscars. The movie earned 4 Oscars at the Academy Awards including Best Picture. Murray however, never regretted the action as he also became a veteran actor over the years and is regarded as one of the finest.
Tom Cruise Talked About His Death-defying Stunt in Mission: Impossible
Although Bill Murray isn’t seen as much as in movies and series nowadays, Tom Cruise is making it bigger and better with every action movie that he releases. Talking about the infamous and iconic death-defying stunt that the upcoming Mission: Impossible- Dead Reckoning Part One has to offer, director Christopher McQuarrie talked about his preparation and the willpower that went into it.
“There is a lot going into this stunt. So Tom put together this master plan to coordinate all of these experts in each of the particular disciplines involved to make this happen,”
In another video, Tom Cruise stated that before the shooting of the actual scene, the actor had practiced over 500 skydives and 13,000 motorcycle jumps! With the recent launch of the latest trailer, fans have been quite excited about what Cruise has to offer in the upcoming movie. Mission: Impossible- Dead Reckoning Part One is set for a release date of 12th July 2023 in theaters across the U.S.
