Did you know that one of the stunts left Jason Momoa permanently scarred? Each project that translates onto the silver screen aims to bring forth a sense of magic. However, to achieve this, it’s the actors who have to often immerse themselves into their roles, sometimes pushing their physical as well as emotional boundaries. While the final product is often appreciated with accolades like the Oscars or the Emmys, sometimes the pain endured by the actors goes unnoticed.
Even though Jason Momoa appears to be an invincible force on the screen, in reality, he’s just a mortal like everyone else. In some of his public appearances, the Aquaman actor has often opened up about his vulnerabilities and the issues he has been facing owing to his advancing age.
Jason Momoa revealed the stunt mishap that left him permanently scarred
During one of his interviews with Yahoo, Jason Momoa disclosed a near-miss injury during the shoot of Braven that left him with a facial scar. Recounting the incident, Momoa revealed that during a choreographed bar scene, a stuntman accidentally knocked him by blindsiding him.
“I got knocked out. A stunt guy hit me. He blindsided me. We didn’t make eye contact, and he hit me before I could grab for him, and everything went black. It was pretty gnarly. I literally thought a light fell from the sky and something happened or a chair hit me because I was moving toward the punch and I couldn’t even see it. It just hit me on the side by the temple. The lights went out and I was like, ‘I can’t see!’ Head trauma is a serious thing.”
After the shooting was halted for a day, Momoa decided to come back to the shoot the next day. However, he admitted that the incident had taught him a valuable lesson – collaborating with the stuntman to ensure a safer choreography. But this unfortunately didn’t mean that he couldn’t get hurt again.
Jason Momoa revealed the injuries incurred during Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom
Despite his on-screen tough-guy image, Momoa didn’t seem afraid to tap into his vulnerability during his 2021 appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. While shooting the physically demanding stunt-heavy Warner Bros film, the actor suffered some serious injuries, reminding him of his advancing age. While talking about the injuries he suffered on Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’s set, he said,
I’m getting old. I messed up my eyes. I just got something in it that kinda cut it up, and then I’ve gotta get surgery, I have a hernia, I’ve got ribs out. I’m just getting beat up.”
However, not wanting to scare the audience by talking about his scratched cornea and hernia, the actor reassured them that the film was going to be great. He also added that he has begun to embrace the aging superhero phase of his life.
Directed by James Wan, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will hit the theatres on December 20, 2023. The movie will also feature actors Emilia Clarke, Patrick Wilson, Ben Affleck, and Amber Heard.
