Being a fan of the horror genre, del Toro once sat down for a chat with notable director James Cameron to talk about the need for fear. Explaining that fear makes people realize how alive they are, del Toro revealed that he had an encounter with a UFO once. Talking about the encounter, del Toro revealed that he was indeed very scared but also…the encounter was so clichéd!

“I didn’t want to see a UFO. It was horribly designed. I was with a friend. We bought a six-pack. We didn’t consume it, and there was a place called Cerro del Cuatro, “Mountain of the Four,” on the periphery of Guadalajara.”

The director further continued,
“We were the only guys by the freeway. And we saw a light on the horizon going super-fast, not linear. And I said, ‘Honk and flash the lights.’ And we started honking. [It] Went from 1,000 meters away [to much closer] in less than a second — and it was so crappy. It was a flying saucer, so clichéd, with lights [blinking].”
And that is when…the director started laughing due to the incredibility of the situation.
“It’s so sad: I wish I could reveal they’re not what you think they are. They are what you think they are. And the fear we felt was so primal. I have never been that scared in my life. We jumped in the car, drove really fast. It was following us, and then I looked back and it was gone.”
But since the director had so much to say about the crappy UFO, so did the fans. Taking to Twitter, people talked about Guillermo del Toro’s encounter with the UFO. Giving incredulous replies about how del Toro roasted the spaceship, fans were left in disbelief by the director’s actions.

People took to Twitter to express their views and opinions on Guillermo del Toro seeing a UFO. It wouldn’t have been surprising if the director had simply seen a UFO but the way that he described it…seemed to make the matter more hilarious.

Whatever the case may be, it seems that Guillermo del Toro was left unimpressed with the way UFO was so clichéd. This could technically mean that humans were right all along and UFOs do look like flying disks with blinking lights but del Toro would prefer something different.
