Despite getting a lot of hate for portraying an aspiring pop idol, Jocelyn, Depp gets backed up by HBO as they clarified the rumors about the show being a limited series.
HBO Addressed The Rumors of Lily-Rose Depp’s The Idol Being a Limited Series
“This was never meant to be a long-running show, it was always … a limited series.”
As the claims got into the ears of HBO, they quickly addressed the report with their official PR Twitter stating that the second season has not been determined yet.
“It is being misreported that a decision on a second season of The Idol has been determined. It has not, and we look forward to sharing the next episode with you Sunday night.”

Given that HBO has not promoted the series as a limited one, it further questioned the validity of the report. Meanwhile, another source mentioned,
“The door is definitely still open — it’s definitely not a decision [yet]. At this point, this is normal in our process … we’re only two episodes in.”
The show has been receiving highly negative feedback with behind-the-scenes reports further escalating the backlash. However, HBO has decided to keep supporting Johnny Depp’s daughter as Dior did when he was being criticized after his ex-wife, Amber Heard, put him under media scrutiny.
Dior Supported Johnny Depp in Difficult Times!
Johnny Depp has been a brand ambassador for Dior since 2015 who kept on being the face of the luxury fashion brand even after Heard went public with her claims.
In a 2018 Washington Post op-ed, Heard described herself as a domestic abuse victim. It led him to get troubled majorly in his professional career as the film franchises, Fantastic Beasts and Pirates of the Caribbean ended their partnership with the actor.
However, The New York Times reported that Dior did not terminate his brand ambassadorship despite those claims. But Hypebeast shared that the brand “did limit its presence and connection with the Pirates of the Caribbean actor during the height of the abuse allegations”.
