‘Harry Potter: The Cursed Child’ Reportedly in the Works With Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint Returning

It has been more than a decade since the final Harry Potter film bewitched fans all over the world. Since then, Warner Bros. has released several spin-offs, such as the Fantastic Beasts trilogy. Unfortunately, the last film of the franchise underperformed at the box office, which left a vague future for the supposedly five-part movie series.

Regardless, Warner Bros. is looking to fund another Harry Potter project which CEO David Zaslav deems profitable. Despite the controversy that author J.K. Rowling has gone into, Zaslav remains her trusted ally. In fact, known leaker WDW Pro revealed that the studio plans to reboot the franchise with a brand-new cast.

Warner Bros. Plans To Bring ‘Harry Potter And The Cursed Child’ To The Big Screen

Aside from the rumored remake of the Harry Potter films, there have been plans to adapt the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child play that premiered in West End in 2016. The story follows the adventures of Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy’s sons, Albus and Scorpius.

Since Warner Bros. owns the right to The Cursed Child stage play, there is a huge possibility that it will push through. Original cast Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint will also be at the same age as the characters in the next five years.

A report from The Sun states that Warner Bros. plans to bring The Cursed Child to the big screen. The play proved profitable and popular among fans when it opened at West End. The movie project was only pushed to the side due to the hectic work with the Fantastic Beasts films.

A line has been temporarily drawn on that for now, especially given its lacklustre performance, so it’s full steam ahead when it comes to developing The Cursed Child. At the moment, it is in very formative stages and they are discussing the next steps to move it forward.”

The source also said it would be a fan’s dream to have the original cast back in the game, although this seems to be a huge challenge. The insider noted that everyone wants Radcliffe back into the Harry Potter world. All they had to do to convince the actor was to rework the script and iron out all plans for the upcoming movie.

The hope at the moment is that The Cursed Child could be made into two films – both which would pack as much punch, if not more, than the stage show.”

These plans for The Cursed Child look very promising, but since nothing is confirmed yet, fans of the franchise can only hope that the project will push through and the stars will grant their wish by reprising their roles.

After all the hullabaloos surrounding the Harry Potter universe and its creator, J.K. Rowling, the original lead stars are still open to returning. Rupert Grint confirmed, as per Daily Mail, that he would love to play Ron Weasley again as long as “the timing was right and everyone was coming back.”

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Radcliffe also admitted that he’s “never going to say never” and referred to the Star Wars cast who returned to the franchise after 30 to 40 years. However, the actor revealed that the project is “not something I’m really interested in doing right now.”

Emma Watson is also open to reprising her iconic Hermione Granger role, but only if J.K. Rowling would not be involved, as confirmed by a source from Giant Freakin Robot.
