Harrison Ford announced his retirement as Indiana Jones
Harrison Ford recently shared that his upcoming film Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny will be the final time he plays the lead. In an interview with Total Film (via GamesRadar+), Ford shared he will not be involved in the Indiana Jones streaming series even if it becomes a reality. He said,
“This is the final film in the series, and this is the last time I’ll play the character. I anticipate that it will be the last time that he appears in a film.”
Ford has earlier also announced his retirement, but he came back for The Dial of Destiny, amid reports that Disney was looking to recast a younger Indiana Jones. It could have been given to Marvel star Chris Pratt.
However, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kenndy had pledged that her team would never make Indiana Jones without its original lead, Harrison Ford. She said,
“Having just finished the fifth movie, I can tell you, there wasn’t a day I wasn’t on set where I wasn’t like, ‘Yes—this is Indiana Jones.'”
In the content of the new movie The Dial of Destiny, Indiana Jones teams up with his goddaughter Helena Shaw (played by Phoebe Waller-Bridge) as they try to prove that NASA’s space exploration program has been intruded on by Nazi spies.
Can Elsa Pataky replace Harrison Ford as the new Indiana Jones?
The news of Harrison Ford‘s retirement from the role of Indiana Jones has raised questions about who would carry on the massive legacy. Among the many names cropping up in our minds, one among them is Chris Hemsworth‘s wife Elsa Pataky.
The interceptor actress is relatively new to the world of action, nonetheless, she has a keen interest in Indiana Jones. In an interview with People, Pataky shared her desire to be the next Jones. She said,
“I wanted to be Indiana Jones. Going up hills with heavy weights, I wanted to feel what the Army girls go through.”
Elsa Pataky also revealed her husband helped her prepare for the action sequences for her new movie Interceptor.
As per the reports by ScreenRant, Tom Selleck was director Lucas’s first choice for Indiana Jones and was even officially given the role. However, he did not take up the role due to a clashing schedule with another movie. Some other names that were considered include Jack Nicholson, Steve Martin, Bill Murray, Nick Nolte, Tim Matheson, and others.
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny will release in theatres on 30 June 2023.
