British actor Will Poulter has come a long way from playing the young Eustace Scrubb in The Chronicles of Narnia to becoming a Marvel recruit as Adam Warlock in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. The film which opened to extremely positive responses from audiences and critics alike, also showcased Poulter’s ability to infuse humor to his physically towering and impulsive character.
Speaking of his MCU debut and the memorable experiences he shared with a host of veteran actors, Poulter also addressed the criticisms that the MCU faced during its Phase 4 films. With many of the films in this phase having met with lukewarm responses for their narratives and plot developments, the Adam Warlock star had an interesting theory while defending the franchise.
Here’s Why Will Poulter Defended MCU Phase 4
Phase 4 of the MCU saw a staggering total of 17 movies and series released between 2021 and 2022. As one of the most ambitious projects that attempted to connect multiple plotlines and superheroes, the phase turned out to be a mixed bag eventually, with many hits and an equal number of misses. The franchise was criticized for dreaming too big with an overdose of releases that saw some projects like Black Widow, Thor: Love and Thunder, and Fantastic Four falling by the wayside. Newly appointed Marvel star Will Poulter defended the MCU’s decisions saying,
“I think the size of Marvel and the scope of their programming is so large that sometimes people can kind of, sort of confuse that for quantity over quality. But the folks at the top are, I mean, deeply and passionately invested in the quality of the material”
Poulter also added that Marvel has always followed the policy of giving superstars like Benedict Cumberbatch, Tilda Swinton, Jake Gyllenhaal, and many others the space to explore other avenues along with their commitment to the MCU.
Will Poulter Was Excited To Become A Marvel Star
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 actor Will Poulter spoke extensively about his call-up to the MCU to play Adam Warlock in the James Gunn directorial. The film which opened to rave reviews, also put the former child actor in the spotlight for his role. Reminiscing his feelings about being part of the project, Poulter said,
“The obvious privilege and excitement of the whole ordeal notwithstanding… I mean, your first, I think, instinct genuinely is feeling kind of very, very lucky to be welcomed into a world that is characterized by such a committed and passionate fan base that is also predicated on the contributions of so many incredibly talented people.”
Poulter added that the pressure to live up to the legacy of the MCU and all the stars who preceded him was quickly replaced by the incredible experiences he had while filming. The actor stated that he was grateful for the opportunity, the positive vibes, and the unforgettable memories that he shared with every member on the set.
