GTA 6 Release Date Potentially Revealed: New Leak Could Have Exposed Rockstar’s Announcement Plans

GTA 6 Release Date Finally Revealed: New Leak Exposes Rockstar's Announcement Plans

To say GTA fans have been impatiently waiting to hear an update about the next title in the series, would be quite an understatement. Last month at Gamescom, the Opening Night Live kicked off with an intruder running onto the stage to ask for an update on the next GTA title. Fans half expected some sort of announcement to be made at last year’s The Game Awards, an annual event to felicitate the year’s best games, but they were disappointed with absolutely no hints given about it.

The 17th of this month would mark a decade since the initial release of Grand Theft Auto V. While there has been a plethora of new features and content in the game since, players still eagerly await news on the next title in the series. Now, there seems to be finally a respite for the wait as an audio leak has all but confirmed the announcement plans for the next GTA title.

GTA Online Still Brings New Content To The Decade-Old Game

Neither Rockstar Games nor their parent company Take-Two Interactive have made any official announcement for a new GTA game

In the time since GTA 5‘s release back in 2013, along with GTA Online, the game has been dishing out new content in the game for a long time now. The new content has quite successfully kept gamers engaged as well, with a lot of holiday-themed events rewarding players generously. While the studio has been raking in the money with the decade-old game in all possible ways, gamers believe they’re due a new title already.

Last year, in what was considered one of the biggest leaks in the gaming industry, a set of gameplay clips of early alpha production footage from Rockstar Games was leaked that seemingly confirmed that the game is under development. An 18-year-old was later arrested in connection with the massive leak. This forced Rockstar Studios and their parent company Take-Two to issue statements that while the game is definitely under production, the leak will not affect the progress made so far, and an official update will be made when they feel the time is right.

Ever since then, there have been no official news or updates from Rockstar Games, and now a new leak has seemingly confirmed what’s being planned for the next Grand Theft Auto title.

While the gaming industry and fans everywhere await official announcement plans for the next GTA title, an official word about the next title is yet to come out from either Rockstar Games or parent company, Take-Two. The game will no doubt create a frenzy whenever an official announcement or a teaser is released. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has hinted at many occasions about how he feels the fiscal year 2025 will be massive for them, which led many to believe that might just be the timeline when GTA 6 will be released. Now a new audio leak from Zelnick himself, which has since been taken down by a copyright claim, points to an announcement as early as next month.

A leaked voice memo, that’s said to be from Zelnick himself, has got gamers buzzing, in which the CEO himself is said to have revealed that Grand Theft Auto 6 will be announced towards the end of next month, October 2023. The audio then goes on to mention that the plan is to launch the game in October 2024. As much as the gamers would like the clip to truly be a leaked memo and for the details shared in the audio to be true as well, there’s a high possibility that it’s quite fake as it sounded quite like it was AI-generated.

The leaked audio has since been struck down with copyright claims which has stopped the purported leak from being shared on social media platforms.

Rockstar Games Might Still Make An Announcement Towards End of 2023

If the leak is real as it’s claimed to be, fans will hear about the next title in just over a month. Even if it ends up being fake, Rockstar Games is still expected to make an announcement sometime during the Fall of this year, which might either be next month or even towards the holiday season later this year. Any announcement made by Rockstar Games about the next GTA title might still be just that, just an announcement and not a big reveal with an official trailer.

Fans are best advised not to hold their breath expecting a lot of first-look at the game already, but if Rockstar does release some sort of a teaser, it’s bound to send the internet into a frenzy.
