Last year, gaming had one of its most controversial leaks in the form of in-development footage of the highly anticipated GTA 6. This leak sent ripples through the entire industry, with many divided over what to make of the gameplay leak. The 18-year-old hacker responsible for this will not be standing trial as he has been deemed unfit due to poor mental health.
The huge GTA 6 leak took place on September 18, 2022, in which over 90 clips of gameplay were uploaded on to the Internet. Not only that, the hacker also tried to ransom the game’s source code for a lot of money.

Who is the GTA 6 Hacker?
Arion Kurtaj is the 18-year-old who hacked Rockstar Games last year and leaked confidential footage of GTA 6. He is a member of a hacking group called Lapsus$ that has a history of large-scale hacks and leaks.
Not only did Arion Kurtaj leak in-development footage, he also blackmailed the Rockstar staff with the game’s source code. It seems that Kurtaj is in fact the mastermind behind most, if not all, of the hacking group’s cybercrime escapades. He has been charged with 12 offences which include three counts of blackmail, two counts of fraud, and six charges under the Computer Misuse Act.

A History of Cybercrime – The GTA 6 Hacker
Arion Kurtaj isn’t just responsible for the GTA VI leak; he also targeted Revolut and Uber in 2022 before eventually going on to hack Rockstar Games. He accessed around 5,000 Revolut customers’ information and caused about $3 Million in damage to Uber. According to a prosecutor, he has also hacked London Police’s cloud storage.
Along with another 17-year-old, both of them have been accused of blackmailing Britain’s biggest broadband provider BT Group and mobile operator EE demanding a $4 Million ransom. They were also the masterminds behind an Nvidia hack, using that information to blackmail them.

What is to Become of the Hacker?
After a thorough assessment by psychiatrists, the GTA 6 hacker, Arion Kurtaj, has been deemed unfit to stand trial. So now, rather than delivering a guilty or not verdict, the jury will decide whether he committed the alleged acts of crime. Previously, he has pleaded guilty to two offences under the Computer Misuse Act and one count of fraud.
Currently, it is unclear what will become of the infamous hacker. But it seems, for the time being, that he may get away with it. But what do you think should be the hacker’s fate? And are you excited for GTA 6? Let us know in the comments!
