According to a new earnings report from Rockstar Games’ parent company Take-Two Interactive, it appears that we might finally have a release window for the long-awaited GTA 6. The report looks to the future of Take-Two stating that:

“In Fiscal 2025, we expect to enter this new era by launching several groundbreaking titles that we believe will set new standards in our industry and enable us to achieve over $8 billion in Net Bookings and over $1 billion in Adjusted Unrestricted Operating Cash Flow. We expect to sustain this momentum by delivering even higher levels of operating results in Fiscal 2026 and beyond.”

Although there is no direct confirmation, the “$8 billion in Net Bookings” clearly points to it being one of Take-Two’s bigger IPs. This means that most likely the report relates to GTA 6 as although Rockstar has remained radio silent, small teasers and recent large-scale leaks have revealed that development of the game is well underway.

What this new report means is that the release of GTA 6 will most likely fall in the Fiscal Year of 2025. Although this may seem like a large release window it can be narrowed down to between April 1, 2024, and March 31, 2025.

What Does This Mean for GTA 6?

Well, when looking at the previous release dates of other flagship Rockstar titles, Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2 both have had a holiday 2013 and holiday 2018 release window respectively. If GTA 6 sticks to tradition, it is most likely that Take-Two would aim for a Holiday 2024 release making it 11 years between Grand Theft Auto instalments.

On top of that, barring any terrible development problems, GTA 6 will most likely be one of the biggest games of all time on release. The early test gameplay footage we’ve seen so far as well as leaked map details indicate that this could be the most ambitious game Rockstar has ever made.

Even in these early stages, there are rumoured game mechanics and story details that mean when GTA 6 is finished it could surpass the likes of Red Dead Redemption 2 in complexity. The game could even dethrone Grand Theft Auto 5’s sales record of $1 billion in three days due to how hyped it has been.

In the long-term GTA 6 could also go on to outsell its predecessor in all-time sales. Over the last decade, Grand Theft Auto V has remained in the gaming sphere due to its release over multiple console generations and continued developer support from Rockstar, on cash cow GTA Online. However a brand new game, after an over ten-year gap in the franchise, will surely lead to fans snatching up copies of GTA 6 as soon as possible.

At the same time, all this information is speculation and although GTA 6 may aim for a holiday 2024 release window, like most AAA games it could end up being delayed well into 2025. Or maybe, just maybe Rockstar can pull off the near impossible in video game development with GTA 6; a perfect game released on time.
