The studio has been working on this project for almost a decade now, with Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti as producers. This was announced in 2013, but there were no development details then. Despite so, Top Gun: Maverick’s Joseph Kosinski was approached to write the script with Alex Tse.

In 2018, it was reported that Gran Turismo would not be happening because the competition with the Fast and Furious franchise might seem futile. The movie series is quite popular and has been dominating the big screen when it comes to the racing genre.

Later on, Sony announced that they would reignite the project plan with a television show and a movie with director Neill Blomkamp. It seems that the studio has finally found the confidence to push this through as it gears up for a movie adaptation.

After the confirmation, Sony announced the movie’s release date, and it will be arriving in theaters on August 11, 2023. The studio also revealed plot details which involve a true-to-life story about a teenager who plays the game, excels at it, and wins Nissan competitions. Eventually, the youngster becomes a pro at car racing.

There are no details yet about the cast, but since the story is based on real-life, Sony might look into their GT Academy. This program took players who have won at national competitions from all over the globe and were sent to a race camp in the United Kingdom. These players went under training to become professionals.

Gran Turismo 7 PlayStation

With this unique approach, Gran Turismo might leave a remarkable impact in the field of car racing film adaptations. This is the latest project of PlayStation Productions which began with Uncharted, and then The Last of Us on HBO. Further details will be announced soon, so fans have to keep their eyes peeled for more updates.
