Director Chad Stahelski and producer Derek Kolstad introduced the world to the former Hitman, who is forced to return to the life he once abandoned, with the 2014 neo-noir action thriller John Wick. The film has a modest box office success and was also received very well by critics as well. And no one would have predicted at the time that it would go on to become one of the most successful action franchises with three more movies, and would follow up with several spin-offs.
Starring Keanu Reeves, the fourth installment in the franchise was released recently. While it is uncertain if the lead star of the film series will return in another solo feature, the franchise would continue with its spin-offs, The Continental and Ballerina. And producer Basil Iwanyk has claimed that the next project in the franchise would be cool in every aspect.
John Wick Producer Claims Regarding The Continental
Followed by the massive success of Keanu Reeves‘ John Wick franchise, the makers are bringing in the stories of some of the prominent characters from the series. And the upcoming prequel spin-off The Continental tells the tale of the owner of the chain of hotels, Winston Scott.
And during a recent interview, Basil Iwanyk claimed that the series would have a really cool premise. He shared that they wanted to establish the character according to his backstory and considering the fact that he has been in the hotel for “40-something years.”
“That would lead us to 2000, assuming 1973 or 74.’ And we were like, ‘God, that’s really cool,” he explained further during the interview. Iwanyk shared that the process of Winston Scott getting hold of the hotel would be “lawless and crazy and post-war and nuts.”
“That’s a cold premise for a gangster movie, and that’s a cool premise for a Wick series,” he further stated. The Continental is based in an alternate history in the 1970s and follows Winston Scott as he takes ownership of the New York branch of the Continental chain of hotels.
Winston Scott Would Be Different in the TV series
The owner of the Cintinnetal chain of hotels has been portrayed by the English actor-producer Ian McShane in the film series and the video game series. However, the prequel spin-off would introduce Colin Woodell as a younger Winston Scott.
And the 31-year-old American actor has said that his portrayal of the character would be quite different from what people have seen in the movies. He has shared that Winston Scott is very smart and has “creative choices.” However, he has also said that “trying to match that is very intimidating” for him.
The Continental is expected to release on 22 September 2023 on Peacock.
