God of War Replaced Original Kratos Actor With 6 ft 3 in Christopher Judge Without Even Informing Him

God of War is a work of art, and its reputation as a video game franchise is immense because the game is nearly perfect in every sense. The creators of the game had planned the story of Kratos and it takes its players on an emotional and intellectual journey of growth from a vengeful Spartan to a more compassionate figure in the Norse mythological sequel of the game.

Apart from the fluid gameplay mechanics, remarkable character design, and different weapons to tear your enemies into shreds, the voice acting of Kratos was what made the character so iconic. Terrence Connor Carson’s deep voice captivates the players and adds a layer of realism to the character which goes very well with the Spartan Warrior. However, the voice actor was replaced by Christopher Judge for the 2018 game, but what’s crazier is that he was not even informed about him getting replaced by Judge for the sequel.

God of War Producer Replaced TC Carson In The 2018 Sequel

God of War is one of the biggest games in the PlayStation franchise, and after over a decade of vengeance and hack-and-slash, the franchise is well-loved by its players. TC Carson’s contribution to the franchise remains immense, as the actor has given his voice to almost every game of the franchise. However, for the 2018 sequel, he was replaced by Christopher Judge, and during an interview, he shared how his work with the Ghost of Sparta came to an end.

TC Carson

During an interview with djvladwhere Carson explains, how for the 2018 game, Cory Barlog, the director of the game, wanted the voiceover and motion capture to be done by the same person. While his voice was not an issue, his height definitely posed an issue, as the actor’s height did not meet the requirements for Kratos’ body type. As a result, Sony decided to hire Christopher Judge.

Carson was quite disappointed with being replaced, and called it unceremonious, as it felt quite unprofessional to Carson. The replacement felt unfair among fans of the franchise as video games tend to use separate people for motion picture and voice acting.

Christopher Judge Enjoyed Working With His Fictional Son

Christopher Judge replaced Carson for his height as well as the chemistry with Sunny Suljic was amazing and they just bonded when they met for the very first time.

“I get to the chemistry test and this little runt of a kid is there but he was so engaging and so intelligent and we just hit it off immediately. We had just met like our relationship was there from the very first words”

Judge shared how Suljic would often tease him on the set of God of War, and how he should get “10%” credit for his career.

“Sunny still says ‘hey, I should be getting 10%, I’m responsible for your career, I’m the one who said I had the best chemistry with you!’”

Turns out Sunny Suljic was right about their chemistry, as it was evident in the 2018 sequel, and the game won numerous awards which include the Game of the Year Award, BAFTA Games Award for Best Game, and its sequel won an Award for Best Narrative. Moreover, Christopher Judge wins the Best Performance Award at The Game Award, and The British Academy Games Award in 2023.
