After Daniel Craig’s James Bond era came to an end, speculations about who will take on the role of the next M have been troubling fans. While rumors about British comic and actor Daisy May Cooper assuming the iconic role have been doing rounds, fans are anxiously waiting for official confirmations on who will replace Judi Dench.
Representing the Chief of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI-6) in the series, four different actors across 25 different films have played the roles including Bernard Lee, Robert Brown, Judi Dench, and Ralph Fiennes.
Daisy May Cooper addressed rumors of playing M in the next James Bond film
Famous for her work in Avenue 5, Daisy May Cooper addressed the rumors surrounding her involvement in the next James Bond movie. She explained that the rumors began when her name was casually mentioned as a possibility in a radio discussion, gaining momentum rapidly, and even reaching her parents.
However, she revealed that she is open to the opportunity, humorously stating,
“I think it was on the radio… they were discussing who they want to be the next M and then somebody mentioned my name and from then it just went like f–king wildfires. I had the Daily Mail knocking at my parents’ door at night. Yeah, give me a f–king part. Move over Dench!”
Interestingly, except for one Bond movie For Your Eyes Only, each James Bond movie featured the character of M. Due to the demise of actor Bernard Lee, the role in the 1981 movie was left vacant.
Should Ralph Fiennes reassume the role of M?
While fans are still grappling with the rumors surrounding who will take on the role of the next James Bond, many have speculated that Ralph Fiennes, who played M in the 2012 installment Skyfall should reassume the role. Interestingly, Fiennes himself expressed his desire to continue,
“If anyone from Eon Films is listening, I’m very keen to continue training the new Bond. I love playing M, and I love being part of that franchise. But who knows? Things have to change. But I love working with Daniel. He’s a terrific Bond. I will treasure that experience.”
It’s true that the Harry Potter actor’s return will help the makers to restore some traditional elements to the franchise. Especially after Daniel Craig’s departure. But meanwhile, fans are anxiously waiting for the official announcements regarding the future of their beloved characters, hoping to once again witness an exceptional cinematic adventure in the iconic Bond series.
