Gamescom 2023 had an excellent start with Opening Night Live, hosted by The Game Awards creator, Geoff Keighley. It showcased several of the most anticipated titles coming to gamers in the near future, and presented announcements for brand new games. A plethora of new footage was exhibited on the first night in Cologne, Germany and as many are anticipating, this is likely just the beginning of the what is to come. Gamescom 2023 Starts at Hyper Speed With Starfield Trailer

As the lights go down, Starfield composer, Inon Zur, comes out to the stage and starts off Gamescom 2023 by serenading the audience on piano. When he is finished, everyone’s attention is turned to the center screen as a live-action trailer for the upcoming game is played for the world. It shows a little girl being given a patch by a spaceman, before he boards his ship and takes flight. Rocket Man is played in the background. The trailer highlights spaceship dog fights and exhibits exploration in the title, and the crowd loves it.

It was certainly a strong starting point for the event, as Starfield is one of the most highly anticipated games this year. After the trailer was shown, Todd Howard appeared on stage for his first appearance at a Gamescom event. Between the Starfield trailer and the announcement of the next game, two fans rushed the stage to demand the release of GTA VI. While Geoff Keighley was slightly thrown off and a little disappointed,  Gamescom 2023 continued on as normal after the men were removed. Things Got Scary As Little Nightmares 3 Arrived

As the event moved on, the Little Nightmares 3 announcement was a major win for gamers who love the previous titles. There was some concern another installment would never see the light of day, so developer Lucas Roussel and Coralie Feniello were excited to introduce the game. The title will be releasing in 2024 and includes both a single player and co-op option for those who might want to experience the horror with a friend. Gamescom 2023 Then Travels to 16th Century China For the Black Myth: Wukong Trailer

Black Myth: Wukong is a classical 16th century adventure RPG set in Chinese mythology. It has a planned release of 2024 and was developed by Game Science. The title is based on a Chinese novel called Journey to the West. The combat shown in the trailer looks very difficult, and may have soulslike aspects to it. Things Took a Gory Turn with the Killing Floor 3 Announcement

As it goes, Gamescom 2023 once again turns back to the horror realm, to showcase zombie-mech game, Killing Floor 3. The announcement trailer shows a quite gruesome surgery done on a zombie-like creature, where its chest is ripped open, head drilled into, and arms removed. These body parts are then replaced with robotic machinery, and the creature is placed alongside an army of others who look just like it. There was no release date given for the Tripwire Interactive title, but gamers can find more information about the game in the link below.

A Return Trip to Space Brings Zach Snyder And His Film Rebel Moon to the Stage

The man, the myth, the legend, the director responsible for the #Syndercut, Zack Snyder, throws Gamescom 2023 a curve ball with a trailer for his new movie, Rebel Moon. Snyder and his team at Netflix are delivering fans an exciting space epic that is inspired by Star Wars and Seven Samurai. This R-rated adventure will be in two parts: Rebel Moon Part One: A Child of Fire and Rebel Moon Part One: The Scargiver. Gamescom 2023 Next Celebrated Age of Empires IV For Xbox

You might be slightly confused as to why Age of Empires IV appeared at Gamescom 2023, when the title’s anniversary edition released two years ago. This is because the announcement was not for a new game, but for the fact the title was reimagined on Xbox. If this is something that makes you excited, then waste no time, the new version released on the Xbox store the same day as the announcement!

Swords Collide with the Gameplay Trailer for Crimson Desert

Crimson Desert, a title by Pearl Abyss, is an upcoming online RPG set in a medieval fantasy land. The game has been described as all of the RPGs in gaming rolled into one. This could be incredibly promising for those who want variety in their gameplay, but it could also spell disaster with too much to do and not a lot of creativity. Ice-T Entered Via Recording, Admited to Knowing a Lot About Heists, and Announced Payday 3 Trailer

American Rapper, Ice-T, introduced Payday 3, which is an upcoming first person shooter title from Starbreeze Studios. He revealed the game will contain his own special heist mission, since he apparently knows a lot about said activity. The trailer exhibited some of the gameplay aspects and brought hype to get fans of the series excited. Payday 3 releases on September 21, right in line to compete with the plethora of other games coming out this Fall.

Next Came the Highly Anticipated Trailer Announcement for Assassins Creed Mirage

Ubisoft’s, Assassins Creed Mirage, brings an intriguing new look at the franchise, with its trailer focusing on The Round City of Baghdad, one of the game’s primary locations. The title, which is set to release on October 5, will include voiceover work done entirely in Arabic. It had previously been announced the game would include Arabic subtitles and dubbing, and this trailer (shown fully in Arabic) was the cherry on top for those wanting an immersive experience. The Hits Kept Coming with the Tekken 8 World Premiere Trailer

The classic Bandai Namco fighting game returned to Gamescom 2023, in the form of Tekken 8, to give viewers new features and a release date. Those who want Tekken 8 to succeed will not have worry about it arriving this Fall to heavy competition. Instead, gamers can expect to see the game arrive on January 26, 2024. When it arrives, fans will be treated to ArcadeQuest, a story mode version that incorporates 32 fighters at one time.

The Hunt for Makarov Begins As Modern Warfare 3 is Featured in Exciting Presentation

Sledgehammer developers took the Gamescom 2023 stage to talk about the upcoming Modern Warfare 3 title. They expressed excitement over some of the new features in the game including: open combat missions and open-world zombies. The two showed gamers a look at the first mission in Modern Warfare 3, and it is a story that promises to have massive consequences for our protagonists. A Steampunk Survival Born in Nightingale

Upcoming survival-crafting game, Nightingale, helmed by newly founded Inflexion Games, promises to be a vast and explorable PC experience. Granblue Fantasy: Relink Is the Next Adventure Shown

Granblue Fantasy: Relink is a 3D action game coming from the minds of the developers at Cygames. Players will come face to face with primal beasts and astral gods in order to make it to the end of this title. The Japanese RPG is set to debut on February 1, 2024 to PlayStation and PC users.

Immortals of Aveum Arrived With Trailer for Same Day Release

Immortals of Aveum came to Gamescom 2023 with the same energy as Age of Empires IV, since it had a release on the same day as Opening Night Live. The title follows Jak, a sorcerer determined to save his world from absolute destruction. The game, originally announced at The Game Awards in 2022, was directed by Bret Robbins, the former creative director of Dead Space. Zenless Zone Zero Brings Alliterative Z’s to Gamescom 2023

Zenless Zone Zero is a single player urban fantasy RPG from developer, miHoYo. It will have roguelike mechanics, as players navigate the world as playable protagonist Proxy. In the game, there will also be opportunities to travel through alternate dimensions and recruit friends to fight antagonist, the Ethereal.

Honki: Star Rail Continued the HoYo Run and Showed Off New Footage

As previously mentioned, Zenless Zone Zero was brought to gamers by miHoYo. The developer is also responsible for Honki: Star Rail, and so the powers that be had them present both games back to back. Of course, those who love miHoYo were thrilled with this progression. Since Honki has already released to PC and mobile, the next planned platform is PlayStation 5, and is expected to arrive before the end of the year.

HoYo Devs Stayed on Stage Once More to Give Fans a New Genshin Impact Trailer

The highly popular RPG, Genshin Impact, also created by miHoYo appeared at Gamescom 2023 to show off a new region called Fontaine. Lords of the Fallen Bring Life and Death to Gamescom 2023

Lords of the Fallen, a soft remake of the 2014 title of the same name, introduced more footage to gamers as it gears up for an October 13 release. The soulslike title has a lot to prove, since the success of Elden Ring, but it appears the developers at Hexworks are up to the challenge. In a Back to Back Run, Sonic Superstars and Sonic Frontiers: The Final Horizon Grab the Attention of the Room

The First Descendant Then Entered the Chat with Reveal Trailer and Open Beta

 

The First Descendant is a survival title, where gamers can play solo or join together to fight for the survival of humanity. It is a free-to-play third person shooter and is set to release on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC. Although the date of launch for the game has not been revealed, the beta access will go from September 19 to 25.

Gamescom 2023 Then Journeyed to the Ocean For Under the Waves

In Under the Waves, players will navigate the North Sea as Stan, a professional scuba diver, who has a life-altering experience after a prolonged dive. The title explores themes of solitude and mental health that will bring Stan face to face with very strange events and his own demons. The game was created by indie developer, Parallel Studios, and is set in a futuristic version of the 1970’s.

Troy Baker Crashed Gamescom 2023 to Show Off Fort Solis

It wouldn’t be a true video game event without a touch of Troy Baker, and Gamescom 2023 does not disappoint. Baker appeared on stage to introduce the new indie title he has been working on, Fort Solis. The game, which was developed by Fallen Leaf and Black Drakkar Games, is a linear tale of a remote mining facility. Expedition: A MudRunner Game Parked at Gamescom With Another Premiere Trailer

Expeditions: A Mudrunner Game is a title based in science, where players drive around scenic locations for various experimental studies. The all-terrain vehicles used by gamers will have a wide variety of advanced tech, allowing them to better explore and test their surroundings. As of now, there is no set release date, but it is planned to arrive by 2024.

The Crew Motorfest Came Racing in For a Gameplay Trailer

The title many have written off, yet continues to work hard to earn back our trust, is Cyberpunk 2077. The CD Projekt Red game had a ton of hype in the beginning, but unfortunately its performance did not meet expectations. Stormgate Arrived Promptly With a Showing of Real-Time Strategy

Stormgate is a real-time strategy game that has been developed by Frost Giant Studios through the use of Unreal Engine 5. It appears the extremely anticipated Remedy Entertainment game, Alan Wake 2, was the favored way of ending a great night. The premiere trailer showed off live-action Alan Wake scenes blended together with animation, as the famed author sought to escape the Dark Place.
