One of the many things to come from Microsoft acquiring Bethesda Game Studios was that all new Bethesda releases will be available day one on game pass, not least of all Bethesda’s latest release Starfield. And the top that off, all Game Pass member have to do to play the game early is pay the £35/$35 to upgrade to the premium edition of the game to have access before its September 6th release date making this one sweet deal for eager fans.

Pure Xbox have noted that due to this deal Starfield was already taking the top spot on their Top Paid games lists. And looking at the regional market places where the premium edition is also available it appears that Starfield is also taking the spot there too, in countries such as Australia, Hong Kong, Japan and Europe to name but a few. All done before the games wide release on September 6th 2023 which makes this even more impressive.

Bethesda Game Studios First Original Game in 25 Years

Starfield
Vast open worlds with gorgeous scenery

Given that Starfield is Bethesda’s first original title in 25 years following on from the success of franchises like Fallout and The Elder Scrolls it comes as no surprise that Starfield is as popular as it is. The anticipation for a game from a studio as prestigious as Bethesda is comes as no surprise and seeing as this is an Xbox exclusive for the console players among us it’s about time we saw some excitement for an Xbox game that isn’t Gears of War, Forza or Halo.

Original games are hard to come by these days especially from triple A studios so the world is eagerly awaiting what is sure to be a massive hit. Despite being in early access between Sept 1st to Sept 6th Starfield has already seen over 230,000 concurrent players on steam within its first 2 hours of being available via early access. With a recent 24 hour peak of 245,000 concurrent players still just hours before the games wide release it’s safe to say that Bethesda may have struck gold with its latest release as the game is clearly a hit with fans. Maybe this early access premium upgrade is an option we’ll see more of in the future not just from Bethesda but other studios too.

Could Starfield have benefited from being on PlayStation 5?

With Microsoft’s recent acquisition of Bethesda Game Studios we have to wonder what the numbers would have been like if Starfield had released on the PS5 as well as PC and Xbox. Could we see it on the platform in the future? Who knows but if numbers are anything to go by right now Starfield is doing just fine as it is. With current critic scores sitting at a pretty 87 for Xbox Series X and 88 for PC from Metacritic it’s safe to say the game is a hit with critics and fans alike. This looks like another winner for Bethesda and a game that is sure to endure the rest of time.

Starfield releases worldwide on September 6th 2023 for Xbox Series X/S and PC. Premium edition early access began on September 1st 2023.
