Even after the bad reception of its final season, the world of Game of Thrones is expected to make a comeback with House of the Dragon, set 200 years before the controversial series. As is natural for most big productions to split off into spin-offs, fans are interested to see what the new series has to offer.

Game of Thrones was criticized in the last few seasons for destroying its characters, especially Tyrion and Jaime Lannister. Considering the House of Dragon will be focusing on the ancestors of Daenerys Stormborn, the Targaryen, the stakes are only higher as they played an interesting role in Game of Thrones too.
Game of Thrones v. Lord of the Rings
As stated by George R. R. Martin, The Lord of the Rings was a major influence on his book “A Song of Ice and Fire”, from which Game of Thrones is adapted. While he enjoyed J.R.R. Tolkien’s epic, he felt the story was too simplistic and didn’t explore the outcomes of the king’s action on the commoners.

Considering both the universes have a medieval setting, fans often compare the two. Some of the arguments generally raised by fans include Game of Thrones being more realistic while the Lord of the Rings having a better ending.
Two epics releasing at the same time
The universes are having one more rivalry and it is of a comeback. Game of Thrones ended in a massive disappointment and the new movies of The Lord of the Rings haven’t lived up to the quality of the original trilogy.
Calculated by Parrot Analysis, House of Dragon is generating 20x more Pre-release audience demand than The Rings of Power. Despite the report, fans seem equally divided on which will be better, with a significant chunk preferring neither after the end of both left a bad taste in their mouth.

Acquired by Amazon Studios in a bidding war, The Rings of Power will premiere on PrimeVideo on September 1, 2022. Despite heavy fan backlash for introducing new stories that are set before the books and the movies, the studio is going ahead with the release.
House of the Dragon will premiere on August 21st, 2022 on HBO Max.
