Gal Gadot’s career has been an impressive ascent, catapulting her from being Miss Israel to becoming a global superstar. Her breakthrough as Wonder Woman solidified her status as an influential figure in the superhero genre. With her beauty, talent, and magnetic presence, Gadot continues to captivate audiences and conquer Hollywood.
Following numerous postponements, Wonder Woman 1984 gracefully soared into cinemas and HBO Max on December 25, 2020. Despite the film’s reception, Gal Gadot, the leading actress, continues to captivate audiences and hold a significant position as one of the most adored and influential superheroes in the realm of cinema. Consequently, it’s astounding to contemplate that Gal Gadot nearly embarked on a distinct journey within the DC Extended Universe, taking on a completely different character.
Gal Gadot Almost Took Up Another Role In A DCEU Film
Just before the release of Batman v Superman, Gal Gadot shared an intriguing revelation about her potential involvement in the DCEU’s inaugural film. During an interview with the Israeli website Xnet (via Batman News), the actress disclosed that she was on the verge of portraying a villainous character in Zack Snyder’s 2013 blockbuster Man of Steel. However, due to her pregnancy with her first daughter, Gadot regrettably had to decline the role.
“When I was a month pregnant with (my daughter) Alma, I got an offer to be the evil Superman character. If I wasn’t pregnant I’d take the job, and there’s no way they would take me now to be Wonder Woman.”
In Man of Steel, Antje Traue portrays the role of Faora-Ul, General Zod’s formidable second-in-command. Considering Gal Gadot’s comments, it becomes apparent that Faora-Ul was the DCEU character she would have embodied instead of Wonder Woman. Given Gadot’s undeniable on-screen charisma, it is not difficult to envision her delivering a compelling portrayal of Faora. Undoubtedly, Gadot left a lasting impression on Snyder, leading him to enlist her for his subsequent DCEU venture.
Wonder Woman Turned Fortunes For Gal Gadot
While Gal Gadot’s opportunity to portray Faora in Man of Steel didn’t materialize, it turned out to be a fortunate outcome in retrospect. Antje Traue’s portrayal left a lasting impression, and although Gadot could have been equally impactful, Faora was intended to be a singular character. However, fate took a different course, as Gadot garnered immense praise for her groundbreaking role as Wonder Woman, solidifying her status as the beloved cinematic embodiment of the iconic superheroine.
Gal Gadot has undeniably become one of the most dependable cornerstones of the DCEU, thanks to the resounding success of director Patty Jenkins’ 2017 standalone Wonder Woman film. Her role in the franchise has proven to be both artistically fulfilling and financially rewarding, with reports stating that she received a staggering $10 million for her return in Wonder Woman 1984. Excitingly, both Gadot and Jenkins have already committed to a third installment, solidifying Gadot’s position as a long-term fixture in the DCEU.
Wonder Woman is available for streaming on HBO Max.
