FRIENDS continues to remain one of the most popular s as one of the most popular sitcom in history. The show, which remained close to its fans’ hearts for more than three decades, also boasts of its memorable guest appearances. But again, one guest, who was the hardest to deal with remains Jean-Claude Van Damme, who had to be given Cocoa Puffs to satisfy his weird obsession.
The Day When FRIENDS Creators Couldn’t Handle A Belgian
Jean-Cluade Van Damme is a face, not many fans of FRIENDS may remember, but the Belgian actor couldn’t be forgotten by the show’s creator as he gave them a really hard time. According to one of the co-creators, Kevin Bright, the Bloodsport star showed up three to four hours later.
On top of that, when the actor was approached, he yelled, “No! First, I memorize lines. Then you give me the feeling.” Damme didn’t stop here. He further asked one of the production assistants to get him Cocoa Puffs. Not only this but Jennifer Aniston and Courtney Cox were left irritated by his presence.
Ironically, his cameo appearance in FRIENDS Season 2 came during one of the most notable episodes in the show’s history. At the time, he was at the height of his popularity. His appearance in the January 1996 episode makes the actor’s first-ever TV role.
Jennifer Aniston & Courtney Cox Had A Hard Time Too!
Jennifer Aniston, famous for playing Rachael Green in FRIENDS couldn’t have imagined a harder time than the day Damme made a guest appearance. The director of that particular episode, Michael Lembeck, revealed that the Belgian actor took “advantage of the women he shared scenes with.” Lembeck added:
“We shoot him and Jennifer first. Then she walks over to me and says ‘Lem, Lem, would you do me a favor and ask him not to put his tongue in my mouth when he’s kissing me?'”
Despite being instructed by Lembeck, the Hard Target actor continued to kiss like that and did it again during a subsequent scene. It wasn’t just Rachael, but Monica Geller (Courtney Cox) too had to request the director for the same. He was later trolled by the former president of NBC Entertainment, Warren Littlefield, who admitted that working with a monkey would have been better!
