Hardly there will be someone who hasn’t lied on their resume to land a job! We’ve all sometimes carefully expanded on our skill sets to land a job, and Hollywood is no different, albeit a little more exciting. George Clooney is one of the few actors who can say that he was found to have lied to a director but was still able to keep his career and reputation.
George Clooney, a mega-star and Oscar winner, once said he would do everything to break into show biz and establish himself in Hollywood. In order to get his first acting role, Clooney has said that he tried to dupe a studio boss into believing he had previously worked on a 1982 film.
George Clooney: A Journey from Humble Beginnings to Hollywood Royalty
Over the years, George Clooney has evolved into one of the most recognizable and beloved figures in Hollywood. However, the charismatic leading man of Hollywood didn’t achieve fame overnight.
Clooney’s initial foray into acting was marked by small, uncredited roles in television shows like The Facts of Life and The Golden Girls during the late 1970s and early 1980s. However, his big break came when he was cast as Dr. Doug Ross in the hit medical drama series ER (1994-1999). This role catapulted him into the limelight.
From Clooney’s portrayal of a disillusioned CIA operative in Syriana (2005) where he got an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, to his compelling performance in Michael Clayton (2007) which won him the Academy Award for Best Actor, Clooney rose to fame with his dedication, and the pursuit of a dream.
George Clooney Lied to Land A Role
Young George Clooney lied during an audition and claimed he was in the 1982 film Cat People because he was desperate to land decent roles so he could join the Screen Actors Guild and have a genuine chance at success in Hollywood.
The Syriana actor claims that his lie was caught since the same person had cast the Paul Schrader-directed production.
“I remember lying to a casting director about this movie Cat People. She was like, ‘You were in that?’ I was, like, yep, and she goes, ‘Because I cast that.’ I finally just said, ‘I can’t get in the SAG. Help me!’ She helped me get a job on a film called The Predator. The movie never came out, that’s how bad a film it was. But I got my SAG card,” he added.
So, George Clooney’s journey to stardom wasn’t a walk in the park.
