Jackie Chan is famous worldwide for his charm, wit, and amazing martial arts skills. With an unmatched legacy from his start in Hong Kong films to Hollywood hits, he’s considered one of the most iconic and prolific actors.
No doubt, his body has gone through a lot over the years. The actor knows southern and northern style kung fu, wing chun, hapkido, karate, boxing, and taekwondo – and he even earned a black belt in hapkido. He has been in more than 150 movies, most of which are martial arts films.
Chan remained committed to doing all of his own stunts even after he rose to global fame and has endured risky work all over these years. His dedication led him to suffer multiple injuries to almost every part of his body, breaking many bones – for which he had to undergo many surgical procedures too.
The martial arts actor has done movies that include daring stunts and tricks and there’s nothing he can’t do. But still, he got confused about that one thing in Jurassic Park which made him ask Steven Spielberg a question.
Jackie Chan Couldn’t Find Out This Trick in Jurassic Park
On The Steve Harvey Show, Jackie Chan told Harvey about an incident when he met Steven Spielberg. He started saying when he saw Spielberg walking towards him:
“Wow! Steven Spielberg. How can I start conversation? For me he’s a god.”
He continued:
“I was just sitting in the meeting room, doors are open, he coming, he just walking, I was like wow big fan, big fan.”
Chan then said to Spielberg that he had a question:
“How can you make a dinosaur and the human with the camera move? [Spielberg says] Jackie so easy, no computers, I just do this, do this.”
Jackie Chan’s meeting with Spielberg might have been like a dream, but it looks like his confusion about the Jurassic Park trick was far from that.
The Hong Kong star was uncertain about the combination of special effects, stunts, and Hollywood’s approach to action, which made him ask Spielberg to clear his doubt.
Jackie Chan Didn’t Get to Play in Jurassic Park with Steven Spielberg
Jackie Chan earlier revealed that he idolized Spielberg in Hollywood. During an interview, the 68-year-old actor said that he was surprised upon meeting the director and to know how humble he was. When discussing Jurassic Park, the actor shared with The Black:
“I want to walk with dinosaurs. This kind of movie is one audience.”
When questioned if Chan ever expressed his interest to Spielberg in working on a sci-fi fantasy film like Jurassic Park, he revealed that the director had rejected the idea. Chan said:
“He said No! What we like you in is Jackie Chan’s actions. That’s what we like.”
The Tuxedo added:
“My character wasn’t a policeman or a martial arts expert. In Asia, I made whatever movie I wanted to. But in America, all the scripts I receive are about the police, police, police! I read this script and thought it would be fun.”
Well, even though Chan didn’t get to collaborate with Spielberg in Jurassic Park, he did end up working with the director in the action comedy film The Tuxedo. While Spielberg didn’t direct the film, he served as executive producer for the project.
