Ever since the trailer for the upcoming film, Don’t Worry Darling, was released, there have been multiple speculations made not just about the film, but about its cast too. Directed by Olivia Wilde and starring Harry Styles and Florence Pugh in lead, the film is set to release in September this year.
The cast of the film has brought a positive reaction, yet there seem to be some issues between the lead actress, Florence Pugh, and the director, Olivia Wilde.
The Conflict Between Florence Pugh and Olivia Wilde
The conflict between the two is not something that started after the release of the trailer. It has been there ever since the production of the film. Florence Pugh was not happy with the relationship between the lead actor, Harry Styles, and Olivia Wilde. Not just the conflicts also seem to be because of the pay gap between the actors.
With Florence Pugh deciding not to attend the further promotions of the film and not attending the press for Don’t Worry Darling, these rumors seem to come true.
Regarding the pay gap claim, director Olivia Wilde called it rubbish during her interview with Variety. She said, “There has been a lot out there that I don’t pay attention to. But the absurdity of invented clickbait and subsequent reaction regarding the nonexistent pay disparity out lead and supporting actors upset me.”
Why Harry Styles is Paid More in Don’t Worry Darling
Reportedly Harry Styles, who is making this his second acting credit ever, is paid $2.5 million, whereas Florence Pugh, an actress who has an experience in the field is paid only $700,000. Not just Pugh, Chris Pine, a big name in Hollywood is paid just $600000.
Claims have been that Harry Styles, a singer and former member of one of the most popular boy bands on the planet, One Direction, is paid this much considering how high in demand he is. Olivia Wilde however, has denied these claims so far. Just like the movie, Florence Pugh did not say much about the movie and these claims.
This movie is Bigger and Better: Florence Pugh
The pay gap might not be the only reason for the feud between Florence Pugh and Olivia Wilde. The actress has been vocal about how the trailer of the film seized upon the sex scenes only. She said, “When it’s reduced to your sex scenes, or to watch the most famous man in the world go down on someone, it’s not why we do it. It’s not why I’m in this industry.”
She also said how it would be better if people focused on the movie instead of the most famous pop star in the world, cause it is bigger and better than that, and the people who made it are bigger and better than that.
Florence Pugh was cast for the role of Bunny at first, a neighborhood wife, and a supporting character in the film. But after a pandemic caused a half in the production and the scheduling for the film drastically changed, she was offered to play the role of Alice. Olivia Wilde, the director of the film, took up the role of Bunny.
Florence Pugh to Appear in Dune: Part Two
Other than Don’t Worry Darling, Florence Pugh is also busy with her role in the sequel for the 2021 science fiction film, Dune. She is playing the role of Princess Irulan in Dune: Part Two. Her photos from the set of the film were leaked earlier this month, confirming that she will be appearing in the sequel of Dune.
This can also be the reason why the actress is not able to attend the press for Don’t Worry Darling. However, she will be present for the Vani e screening of the film festival later this month.
Fans Enquire about Harry Styles’ Accent in Don’t Worry Darling
Don’t Worry Darling initially approached Shia LaBeouf to play Jack in the film but was later given to Harry Styles. Wilde revealed in her interviews that she had to fire the actor because of his process of preparing for a role.
The actor has recently denied the claims by saying that he left the role voluntarily as his co-stars did not have time for the rehearsal. However, fans don’t seem pleased with the choice of Harry Styles to play the character of Jack.
Recently Rolling Stone released a clip of the film, showing Harry Styles in an argument with his co-star. Fans were to point out Styles’ accent and took social media to enquire if he was playing a British or an American character.
Don’t Worry Darling is the second director debut of Olivia Wilde and is based on a story by Carey Van Dyke, Shane Van Dyke, and Silberman. Katie Silberman wrote the screenplay for the movie. It stars Florence Pugh, Harry Styles, Olivia Wilde, Gemma Chan, Kiki Layne, Nick Kroll, and Chris Pine.
Don’t Worry Darling follows a happy couple in the 1950s, Alice and Jack Chambers, who are living in the company town of Victory, California. The town is created and paid for by the mysterious company Jack is working for. Alice starts getting curious about her husband’s job and the town she is living in and starts investigating the secret Victory Project, which results in rising tensions within her relationship with her husband and the community.
Don’t Worry Darling will release in theatres on September 23, 2022.
