Disney’s animated fantasy comedy Tangled was a big hit. Nathan Greno and Byron Howard- directed the 2010 movie has grossed over $592.4 million and remarkably, it was also a critical success.
Adapted from Wilhelm Grimm and Jacob Ludwig Carl Grimm’s European fairy tale Rapunzel, the movie starred Shazam! Star Zachary Levi as Flynn Rider and singer/actor Mandy Moore as Rapunzel. Recently, the hype around Tangled live-action was in the loop although there has been no official confirmation about it so far.
Zachary Levi Would Return as Flynn Rider Only If…
As Disney is bringing their animated classics for live-action versions, it would not be surprising to see Tangled getting a live-action version. Recently, the live-action The Little Mermaid has made it to the big screen, and the studio has announced Snow White, Mufasa: The Lion King, and Moana. Now, Tangled has been the talk of the town for a while. Following the internet gossip, Zachary Levi, 42, has responded to the rumor of Oppenheimer star Florence Pugh, 27, being considered for the role of Rapunzel in the live-action.
“There was this thing floating around the internet, I just saw it, somebody sent it to me, that Florence Pugh potentially might play the role of Rapunzel. And If Florence plays Rapunzel, what about me? Which would also be a trip because my real last name is Pugh, p-u-g-h, Zachary Levi Pugh, so you’d have [makes pew-pew noise] in Tangled. Come on!”
Levi recently appeared at a Fan Expo in Chicago where he stated his desire to return to the role if the studio brings Pugh opposite his role. Since his playful comment on the already steaming discussion, it took a new turn after his comment went viral on Tiktok and other social platforms.
Tangled Fans Have Spoken
Disney might consider bringing Levi on board or Pugh seems fitting to her potential role in the film. However, Levi’s recent obsession with Pugh has sparked the debate with something more interesting— their age gap. Many fans took to X to reflect on the actors’ age gap.

Essentially, the age gap of the actors should not even be a point of discussion as the characters are far too younger than the real-time age of the actors.
At this point, it is hard to imagine the live-action version of Tangled with Levi and Pugh as both the actors are far too old to play the Disney characters. The studio might look for new faces or continue with the ongoing internet discussion, it is hard to tell.
