One of the high-profile parts that escaped Emma Stone was in the hit NBC series Heroes. The Help actor auditioned for the part but ended up narrowly missing it to Hayden Panettiere. Speaking of the acute disappointment and depression she felt on losing out on the role, Stone confessed,
“Heroes was tough was because I could hear them through the wall telling Hayden Panettiere, ‘You got the part. You’re the best.’ And then I went in right after her. I was like, ‘F***, man! Is it never going to be my time?’
Fortunately for Stone, this tough phase in her career gave way to better opportunities quickly with the actor signing on Superbad two weeks after losing out in Heroes. In retrospect, the star was grateful that these rejections led to the current success that she enjoyed in Hollywood.
Emma Stone Is Back With Poor Things
It has been a while since we saw Emma Stone on the big screen. Her last outing was in the 2021 origin story Cruella. The actor is now back from her hiatus to take on an interesting and daring role in director Yorgos Lanthimos’ spin on Frankenstein, Poor Things. Stone plays Belle Baxter, a Frankenstein-like woman who is brought back to life after her brain is replaced with that of her unborn child. Speaking of the film and the choice to work with Lanthimos, Stone said,
“There’s no world where I would have done this project with anybody else. I think you could probably feel it when you watch the film that I trust Yorgos implicitly”
Poor Things will also be a refreshing change from the kind of characters that Emma Stone has done in musicals and romantic comedies. Moreover, the talented star will also share screen space with veteran Marvel alums, Mark Ruffalo and William Dafoe.
Poor Things will release worldwide on 8th September 2023.
