Along with his on-screen performances, Johnny Depp has always been in conversation for his dating life as well. He has also been married two times to Lori Anne Allison and Amber Heard, and his separation from the latter resulted in a years-long legal battle. It was during the Johnny Depp vs. Amber Heard trial that many of his ex-partners supported him, and others also stated that he was “controlling” and “jealous.”
His ex-fiance Jennifer Grey also released a statement. However, she did not support either side, saying that the whole thing broke her heart. While she did not say anything at the time, the actress did reveal the troubling behavior the Pirates of the Caribbean star showcased during their dating period.
Johnny Depp And Jennifer Grey Were Briefly Engaged
Johnny Depp and Jennifer Grey met for the first time on a blind date that was set by their agents. Soon after meeting, Depp proposed to the Dirty Dancing actress, and the two got engaged. Talking about her first date in her memoir Out of the Corner, the actress shared that both of them had a great time together.
“We ate, talked, drank Jack Daniel’s, laughed our a-ses off, took cigarette breaks midcourse. He was so ridiculously beautiful. And surprisingly open, funny, quirky and sweet…”
The Cry Baby star even got her a puppy called Lulu to keep her company in his absence. Despite everything going smoothly, their relationship did not last long, and the two broke things off after a brief engagement. Grey also went into detail about what went wrong and how the reason behind their broken engagement.
Jennifer Grey Revealed Johnny Depp’s Troubling Behavior
Jennifer Grey explained in her memoir that their relationship took a turn for the worse, and Johnny Depp’s busy schedule and troubling behavior only made it worse. She explained that not only he was “commuting every week back and forth from Vancouver” but was constantly getting into fights as well.
The memoir states that the Alice in Wonderland actor “had begun more and more regularly to be getting into trouble: fights in bars, skirmishes with cops.” The Red Dawn actress further explained that he would often miss his flights to Los Angeles, and the time he did come back home, he would question her about what she’s been up to in his absence.
She put up with his “ill temper” and “jealous” behavior for some time, believing that it was the frustration of not being able to get off the TV series 21 Jump Street. Depp starred in the first four seasons of the 1987 drama. But he had been wanting to leave the show and wanted to explore something new as an actor.
However, things got seriously escalated when Depp left for a meeting, and neither contacted nor returned to Grey for hours. After this, she broke off their engagement for good. After her separation from the 60-year-old actor, Grey met Clark Gregg, and they got married in 2001. The couple later divorced in 2021.
