Krasinski once refused to film a make-out scene with Lindsey Broad, who played Cathy in the show. According to the book titled Welcome to Dunder Mifflin: The Ultimate Oral History of The Office, the actor declined to film a scene in season Eight episode sixteen titled After Hours, where his wife Pam (Jenna Fischer) goes on maternity leave, and that is when Cathy entered (Lindsey Broad), the temporary replacement of Pam, who tries to seduce his character Jim Halpert while they were on a work trip to Florida.
The 43-year-old star outright declined to shoot the sequence where his character is supposed to cheat his wife and insisted creator Greg Daniels drop the idea, saying,
“That’s the only time I remember putting my foot down … I remember saying things that I never thought I’d say before, like, ‘I’m not going to shoot it.’”
He continued,
“My feeling is there is a threshold with which you can push our audience. They are so dedicated. We have shown such great respect to them. But there’s a moment where if you push them too far, they’ll never come back. And I think that if you show Jim cheating, they’ll never come back.”
John Krasinski fought hard to drop the make-out scene idea from the episode. The actor claimed that any disastrous shift in plotline would push the audience away and it would ruin its legacy.
Lindsey Broad Claims Fans Still Bully Her For Playing Cathy in The Office
Lindsey Broad gained attention for portraying the role of temp receptionist Cathy Simms on the popular NBC series The Office. It was a golden opportunity for the actress to star in one of the highly-rated sitcoms, but after the show ended, she faced online bullying and harassment because of the role she played in it.
The actress once revealed that fans still bully her over that episode of the beloved show on social media. She took to Twitter and shared that she posted a story of her dog’s sudden death, and people started bullying her, calling out, saying she deserved it after what she did to Jim in the show. Broad wrote,
