Trying to gain back his fame after the pandemic, Dwayne Johnson joined hands with Disney to release Jungle Cruise. However, despite hoping to turn it into box office success the movie faced a $151M loss upon its release. But fans believe, Johnson somehow knew the movie wouldn’t work especially after he was spotted being reportedly displeased by Emily Blunt’s take on the movie.
Dwayne Johnson Wasn’t Pleased With Emily Blunt’s Reply
Switching his career from wrestling to entertainment, Dwayne Johnson achieved a massive fanbase and even witnessed mega success in Hollywood. However, with years passing by, the former wrestler’s fame started fading away into oblivion. Thus, Johnson began struggling with his acting career and tried different strategies to regain his fame.
One of his such potential strategies was his association with Disney to release an almost similar remake of The African Queen. Going by the name of Jungle Cruise, Johnson and his co-star Emily Blunt, released a fictional adventure movie in 2021, right after the COVID pandemic. Hoping to make the movie work despite knowing his unstable position in the industry, Johnson pushed his limits.
Trying his level best to promote the movie during a press tour and interviews, Dwayne Johnson seemingly demanded the utmost seriousness. However, during a particular interview, where Emily Blunt seemed self-obsessed with her iconoclastic character, Dr. Lily Houghton, Johnson reportedly slammed the actress saying, “f*ck the movie”.
Dwayne Johnson’s Jungle Cruise Lost $151M At Box Office
Using sarcasm as his defense, Dwayne Johnson seemed offended by Emily Blunt‘s take on her character. Allegedly slamming her for spending time discussing her character, rather than dedicating her sole focus on film promotion, Johnson seemed to face the exact fate that he dreaded the most.
Already aware of the fact that Jungle Cruise might not perform well, Dwayne Johnson faced a terrible fate when he failed to uplift his career with the Disney movie. Although he hoped for his 2021 adventure film to be a box office hit, the movie instead faced a $151M loss at the box office.
After a combined production and promotional cost of $362M, the movie needed to make the bare minimum of $500M at the box office in order to break even. However, Jungle Cruise simply earned a worldwide total of $221M. Therefore, struggling at the box office Dwayne Johnson faced another epic failure, despite having high hopes of reviving his Hollywood career.
