Quentin Tarantino has expressed his intention to conclude his filmmaking career with his tenth movie. Recently, tidbits of information about his final theatrical creation have emerged. As per March reports, this upcoming film is titled The Movie Critic, marking the culmination of Tarantino’s extraordinary journey in the world of cinema. Well, even Bruce Willis could come out of retirement for this.
With the title now confirmed, Tarantino disclosed that his upcoming film would take place in 1977, debunking earlier reports that it would involve real-life movie critic Pauline Kael. However, a fresh rumor has emerged, suggesting that the acclaimed filmmaker is seeking to cast Bruce Willis for a “small role” in this forthcoming project.
Bruce Willis And Quentin Tarantino Worked Together 30 Years Ago
Almost three decades have passed since the release of Pulp Fiction, which marked the initial collaboration between Tarantino and Bruce Willis. Their partnership continued in 1995 when Tarantino appeared in Willis’ segment titled The Man from Hollywood from the anthology film Four Rooms.
Following their earlier collaborations, both Tarantino and Willis pursued distinguished careers independently, engaging in high-profile projects over the years. However, in a significant turn of events, Willis announced his retirement from acting in March 2022 due to a diagnosis of aphasia, which has since progressed to frontotemporal dementia.
As reported by The Express, Quentin Tarantino is actively considering a cameo for Willis in The Movie Critic, but contingency plans are in place in case this proves unfeasible. An anonymous source disclosed to the publication:
Quentin hasn’t approached Bruce’s family yet – and will completely bow to their wishes if they say he’s too sick. If that’s the case, he aims to try to work a brief clip from one of Bruce’s many previous movies into the film.
In response to inquiries about the potential inclusion of Bruce Willis in The Movie Critic, a spokesperson for the Willis family refrained from providing any comment. However, the same source mentioned that if such an occurrence were to transpire, it would serve as a “fitting end” to Bruce Willis’ acting career.
Bruce Willis Hasn’t Acted In A Film Since 2019
Since Glass and Motherless Brooklyn, both released in 2019, Bruce Willis has not starred in any theatrical films. Nevertheless, he has been active in several direct-to-video movies, with the latest one, Assassin, hitting the screens on March 31.
Although the news about his potential cameo in The Movie Critic remains uncertain at this point, it holds a sentimental aspect for both Willis and Tarantino. If this collaboration were to come to fruition, it would hold greater significance given its broader theatrical exposure compared to Willis’ recent cinematic works.
In late May 2023, Quentin Tarantino provided insights into The Movie Critic, revealing its inspiration from a “second string critic” who used to review mainstream films for a publication associated with the adult film industry. Tarantino compared this critic’s reviews to a blend of early Howard Stern and what Travis Bickle’s film criticism might resemble, drawing parallels with Travis’s diary entries.
