“Overpriced. What a Farce”: Fans Vent their Anger over Red Dead Redemption ‘Conversion’.

Recently announced, the release of Red Dead Redemption for PlayStation and Nintendo Switch could be a reason for celebration for fans of the game, but it became a reason for indignation from gamers towards Rockstar. Fans protested after Red Dead Redemption‘s release, claiming overpricing for no new features whatsoever. It wasn’t the reception Rockstar was hoping for, if they even care about their players that is.

Gamers flood the new version of Red Dead Redemption with complaints

Red Dead Redemption disappoints with its new version

On the morning of August 7th, Rockstar revealed that Red Dead Redemption (2010) and its expansion, Undead Nightmare, would arrive on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch on August 17th and physical media editions on October 13th, charging a steep sum of $50 for simply porting the game to new consoles.

On social media, fans and players of the Red Dead Redemption series expressed their displeasure with Rockstar’s practice of releasing a product like this at such a high price, the absence of multiplayer mode and a PC release were aggravating. Not long ago, those dedicated to the franchise or the company were excited by the rumor that a remake would be on the way after a new classification of the game in South Korea, hoping that the quality would be raised to match Red Dead Redemption 2, as with The Last of Us Part I recently.

Some exemplified the expectations they had such as Red Dead Redemption 2’s full map, 60 fps, features for the Dualsense controller, and the conversion for current generation devices. Compared to what was delivered, 30 fps, no remake or remastering, and Rockstar’s little care for its audience.

Red Dead Redemption "Remaster" is here to show that Rockstar doesn't care

The complaint gained even more reason when the community realized that Red Dead Redemption is already playable on Xbox Series X in 4K thanks to the Xbox Series X/S’s more robust backward compatibility with its previous Xbox generations, and the game is available on platforms from Microsoft for years.

Also, the $50 price tag for the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch versions doesn’t seem at all attractive compared to the $30 price offered for the Xbox, where the conversion wasn’t released. Another platform completely ignored was PC, where Rockstar has yet to officially release Red Dead Redemption.

Players, rightly, are calling the new version a “money grab” and asking others not to buy the game anymore, preventing the practice from being encouraged, since companies like that only change when they feel a disturbance in their profit and don’t with the incessant requests of its buyers.

Until then, executives from companies like Rockstar who seem to only care about their gain will continue to push the launch of products like this with a lack of graphical and technical improvements and do not bring a drop in creativity. But as everything is on the internet, especially in the gamer community, the subject was the fuel of many memes, who knows, if it reaches large proportions it will shake executives from their high chairs.

What do you think? How could Rockstar make up for fans after that? Let us know in the comments!
