James Gunn Gives His Take On Ezra Miller’s Future At DC

DC Head James Gunn’s swan song with Marvel Studios, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, is due to release on May 5th. Speaking at the world premiere event of the film, Gunn addressed questions about his final experience with the MCU. In addition, the director was also asked about his new role as DC head and the future of Ezra Miller in the franchise following their recent personal troubles. Gunn in a diplomatic response said,

“We’re just gonna have to wait and see, you know? I mean, we’ll see how things go, so, you know…”

His professional partner Peter Safran was more forthcoming with his opinion on the Miller scandal and said,

“Ezra is fully committed to the recovery right now. And, you know, we talk to them. We’re in constant contact [and] when the time is right, we’ll have the conversation with them and decide what’s best for them personally.”

From the comments, it seems fairly certain that Miller has not been completely written off as a recurring DC cast member, despite being notoriously in the public glare over the last few months for their off-screen capers.

Will Netizens Accept Ezra Miller As The Flash?

Ezra Miller first made their appearance as the Scarlet Speedster in the 2016 DC film Batman vs Superman: Dawn Of Justice. Their quirky and humorous take on a loved superhero made them an instant hit with DC fans. But the star quickly slid off the popularity scale with their troubling tryst with the law on multiple occasions, including being charged with larceny, assault, and violence.

Despite apologizing for their misdemeanors and also receiving support from other DC stars like Jason Momoa, Miller failed to find favor with netizens who criticized their actions while also calling for their eviction from the DC franchise. With Miller’s first standalone film, The Flash set to release with high expectations this summer, it remains to be seen if fans and audiences will grant the actor a long rope and forgive their follies if the film becomes a runaway success.

The Flash releases worldwide in theaters on June 16th, 2023.
