“Everything was at stake”: Tom Cruise’s Mission Impossible Co-Star Defends His Violent Outburst Amid Bizarre Rumor of Crew Not Making Eye Contact With $600M Star
Tom Cruise has an outstanding acting career which continued to stay on the top all due to his continuous efforts and unique stunt sequences that timely awed the world. However, this career took years in the making which had its ups and downs. Over the years, he has been surrounded by several controversies which once even affected his stardom.
Recently, Cruise’s old-time Mission: Impossible collaborators addressed a weird rumor about him which states that the action star forbids crew members to look him in the eye.
In a new interview with The Sunday Times, Tom Cruise-led Mission: Impossible franchise director, Christopher McQuarrie and actor Simon Pegg talked about the strange rumors going around the star for quite a while.
The film director asked Cruise to share the “weirdest” story he has heard about himself in Hollywood. He was dumbfounded at knowing the rumor that people on sets “were not allowed to look me in the eye.”
His co-star came to clarify the false rumor stating,
“I’ve been able to hack my way through all the bizarre mythology that surrounds him.” He continued, “On one side he’s Tom Cruise – this enigmatic film star everyone wants to know about. And on the other, he’s just a guy. I like being normal with him.”
While the rumors were nothing but bluff, it was not enough to judge his relationship with crew members, especially when the actor hit headlines during the pandemic for berating the film crew.
The Top Gun: Maverick star garnered public attention for his infamous outburst in 2020 on the set of his upcoming film, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One. The film was the first major project in Hollywood to get resumed during COVID Pandemic.
To work in the production process, there were strict on-set safety protocols that everyone had to abide by. However, a video went viral in which he was seen shouting at the crew members for standing too close together.
“You can tell it to the people who are losing their f–king homes because our industry is shut down. It’s not going to put food on their table or pay for their college education. That’s what I sleep with every night – the future of this f–king industry! So I’m sorry, I am beyond your apologies. I have told you, and now I want it, and if you don’t do it, you’re out. We are not shutting this f–king movie down! Is it understood? If I see it again, you’re f–king gone.”
Addressing the same, Pegg shared,
“Everything that Tom cares about, in terms of his job, was at stake due to the pandemic.” He continued, “For him there was a danger this virus could wipe cinema off the face of this earth.”
Given the situation at the time, Cruise was only taking precautions to make sure that everyone stay safe. The film which was in production at the time, is finally hitting theatres this July 12, 2023.
