If you have seen Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, you are probably in awe of his physique. However, the jaw-dropping transformation was not an easy task, taking more than just some deadlifts and weights to look as ripped and jacked as everyone’s favorite mutant.
To achieve Wolverine’s ridiculous transformation was a result of three months of prep and an extreme dehydration routine. In his 2014 visit to the Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Hugh Jackman lifted the veil about his incredible transformative routine for the role.
Hugh Jackman’s Brutal Dehydration Routine
Talking about the most impressive character physiques ever, Wolverine would surely find its way to the top. Back in 2014, Hugh Jackman revealed the shocking transformation process he had to undergo to achieve the desired look. The most important part was being in shape all the time, as it was easier to be in shape than to get back in shape. Describing Wolverine as an absolutely physically demanding role, he revealed his brutal dehydration regime,
“I find out the date which is the shirt off thing, and it’s about a three-month runup. You gotta be in pretty good shape, but the three months before is very specific. You increase your water intake… you have about 10 liters of water, which is, what is that, three gallons of water a day. Then you stop about 36 hours before you shoot, but because you’ve drunk so much water you are peeing all the time.”
Joking about going halfway to death for achieving the look, Jackman warned the audience to never try it on their own. While it is true that these physiques could be misleading for some, fans couldn’t help but applaud Hugh Jackman for his aesthetic yet dire transformation.
Hugh Jackman’s Critical Diet Plan For The Role
While it all worked out fine in the end, Hugh Jackman really had to burn the candle at both ends to achieve Wolverine’s physique. Revealing the importance of nutrition for such an impressive physique, he explained he had to train for over 150 minutes each day.
“I do heavy weights in the morning for about an hour, and then I do 45 minutes of higher-volume lifting in the afternoon. I do quite a few chin-ups and rows. I do mostly old-school lifting with a lot of squats. I actually do more front squats than I do back squats, and I do a lot of deadlifting.”
Well, Jackman’s years of preparation have definitely paid off seeing the accumulated earnings of all the Wolverine movies is more than $1 Billion worldwide.
With Wolverine set to return in Deadpool 3 on November 8, 2024, it would be interesting to see what Jackman has in store for us.
