Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is finally here and undoubtedly, it was able to meet the expectations. In the movie, Miles Morales goes on an adventure across the multiverse where he meets a team of Spider-People known as the Spider-Society.
The development of the movie reportedly began before the release of the first movie, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018), with the second movie focusing on the relationship between Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy. Something that caught the fans by surprise was Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s cameos, but it was previously revealed that the movie contained some more live-action scenes that didn’t make it to the final cut.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse contained more live-action scenes
The directors of the movie, Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson, previously appeared for an interview with Variety and talked about the movie. During the interview, they revealed that the movie contained more live-action sequences. Justin K. Thompson said,
“We had even bigger ambitions.” Kemp Powers then added, “There were times when we had huge live-action sequences in the film, and it just turned into a bad joke. Even we didn’t like it anymore. And we just said, ‘OK, enough, let’s make sure that it’s something precise that gets the most bang for the buck, and speaks to the story.'”
The movie was supposed to have some more live-action scenes, however, the directors felt like it was overdone. Kemp Powers further joked that adding these animated characters over live-action sequences “had the look of like a South Park character.”
Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield made an appearance in the movie
It was speculated since the beginning that fans might get to see some cameos in a movie that would integrate the many iterations of Spider-Man. In the movie, Miles Morales gets to know that the multiverse is held together by “canon events.” They can be good or bad, but all Spider-People go through something similar in every universe.
Then Tobey Maguire makes an appearance as fans get to witness the scene in which he loses his Uncle Ben in Spider-Man (2002). Andrew Garfield also makes an appearance as the scene in which he loses Gwen Stacy was also added. These cameos were possible with the help of producers Amy Pascal and Avi Arad.
Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will release in 2024
Knowing how the creators of the film work, one can expect them to be currently working on the third movie of the franchise, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. Will the next movie contain any live-action sequences? The possibility is quite high. The movie is expected to release in March 2024.
Ere Santos, the senior character animator on Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse recently appeared for an interview with The Direct and mentioned that the producers of the movie were “planning [some Avengers: Endgame]-esque stuff” in the future movies. So, there are many speculations that the next movie will be a great crossover.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse contains more crazy easter eggs that gave fans a strong sense of nostalgia. The movie was released in the United States on June 2.
