When it comes to the first-person shooter (FPS) genre, Call of Duty is undoubtedly king, but it’s far from the only FPS series in town. Battlefield is another incredibly popular series with fans all over the globe. Unlike Call of Duty, Battlefield doesn’t launch a game every year, meaning that it’s been close to two years since the launch of the last Battlefield game.

Players got their next piece of information from an EA earnings call for Q1 2024, which said it would be a “reimagining” of the Battlefield series. It will also feature a “connected ecosystem”, but what that means exactly, no one knows. Apart from that, there have been many leaks and rumors about the next game, whose accuracy we don’t know yet. For instance, one leak claims that the game’s setting will be modern or at most shortly. What’s certain though, is that the game is being built from scratch in a new game engine.

What could the “connected ecosystem” potentially be?

As for what the mysterious “connected ecosystem” could be, there are theories and rumors about that too. The next Battlefield game is believed to have three developers, with EA DICE working on the main multiplayer mode, Ripple Effect on another multiplayer experience, and Ridgeline Games on the narrative aspect, which might be a single-player campaign. Additionally, Ripple Effect’s other multiplayer experience could potentially be a battle royale game mode, which has grown in popularity and stature in recent years.

These three components of the next Battlefield game could explain its “connected ecosystem” where all these aspects work together and complement each other. It could also be similar to how Call of Duty handles matters with its yearly releases and connecting those with its Warzone battle royale.

Still, there isn’t much concrete information available yet, but we can all take solace from the fact that EA seems to be working hard on the next Battlefield game and is slowly getting ready to reveal more and more about it.
