Dwayne Johnson Demanded More Than Twice the $9M Salary of His Co-Star for a Movie That Lost $151M at Box Office

Dwayne Johnson’s career has been at its highest peak for a while now. His ability to give one big hit after another is incredible. Rightfully so he is amongst the highest-paid actors in Hollywood at the moment. His range in movies and his extensive talent have allowed him to achieve as many goals as he aspires.

Seeing the successes that he has gathered in his roster so far, he has also released some underperforming movies as well. One particular movie further raised an even bigger question that has been overlooked for quite a while now. Emily Blunt and Johnson’s Jungle Cruise did not perform that well at the box office and the difference in their salaries was even more questionable.

Dwayne Johnson Earned More Than Twice Of Emily Blunt For Jungle Cruise

Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt’s Jungle Cruise was an adventure movie that saw both the actors exploring the jungle in a Pirates of the Caribbean esque manner. The movie did moderately well, opening up the possibility of a sequel. However, it was nowhere near enough to count as one of the actor’s biggest hits. In fact, the movie lost a whopping $151 Million at the box office.

What was even more shocking was that Johnson had earned $22 Million for the movie. The figure itself may not be that surprising considering that he is one of the highest-paid actors. What was surprising was the fact that Emily Blunt only earned $9 Million for the role. The actress is a highly recognized figure in the Hollywood industry. Her talent has been one that is specifically respected both in American and British cinema. This was furthermore concerning because both of them were playing the lead actors. The difference is one to dwell upon, seeing just how underpaid actresses are in the industry as compared to actors.

Emily Blunt’s Salary For Jungle Cruise Highlights On The Gender Pay Gap

This is not the first time something like this has happened. The difference in pay between actors and actresses has been a long ongoing battle. The highest-paid actors all range to have earned over $34 Million while the highest-paid actresses in Hollywood barely hit $20 Million.

This number is highly concerning about just how much potential big actresses have. While the issue of the gender pay gap is said to be worked on, it is far from the case. Actresses like Blunt have much more talent than what they are paid and while Johnson’s fee is fair, in comparison to her it is unjustified.
