Following the colossal failure of Black Adam and the axing of Henry Cavill from the role of Superman, Dwayne Johnson finally broke his silence over the matter during the red carpet of 2023’s Oscars. Considering the People’s Champion’s big ambitions for his Black Adam and DC, the failure of his passion project was definitely a hard pill to swallow for the actor.
But it seems that the actor has come to terms with the situation and didn’t back away from accepting his failure. He also expressed that they tried their best to craft the best experience for fans with Black Adam.
Dwayne expressed that he did his best with Black Adam
While speaking with Variety, Dwayne Johnson expressed the axing of Henry Cavill from the role of Superman after he brought back the actor through Black Adam. The Black Adam star expressed that they did everything they could do with Black Adam and put all of their efforts into creating the best experience and bringing back Henry Cavill for the fans.
Although he stressed that they were somewhat successful considering the audience score was around the 90s, however, he acknowledge the criticisms surrounding the movie. He stated,
“You know, all that I could do and that we could do when we were making ‘Black Adam’ was to put our best foot forward, surround ourselves with the best people, and then also deliver the best movie we could. Our audience score was in the 90s. Critics took a couple of shots. That’s just the business of it, though.”
But despite his plans of crafting a DC universe that would have revolved around his character was sidelined after the change in DC’s leadership. The Rock doesn’t seem to be much disappointed by the new vision of James Gunn and Peter Safran for the DCU.
Dwayne Johnson doesn’t hold any grudge against the new management
Despite his grand plans involving a clash between Johnson’s Black Adam and Cavill’s Superman being sidelined after the change in DC’s regime, Dwayne Johnson isn’t disheartened by DC’s new direction. He explained the situation by giving an example of Football, and it appears that despite his vision for DC being sidelined, the actor doesn’t hold any grudge against DC’s new management. He said,
“I think it’s almost like when you have a pro football team, and your quarterback wins championships, the head coach wins championships, and you have a new owner. And the new owner comes in, and says, ‘Not my coach, not my quarterback, I’m gonna go with someone new.'”
Although Henry Cavill has been shown the exit from the role of Superman, the future of Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam remains under wraps. And considering that the People’s Champion has previously shared that he is still open to the idea of returning to his role under Gunn’s leadership, we might get to witness Johnson after the initial chapters of DCU.
Black Adam is available to stream on HBO Max.
