“Don’t think anyone should read into the name”: Daredevil: Born Again Already Digressing From Comic Books, Charlie Cox Confirms Frank Miller Story Isn’t the Blueprint

As MCU moves into Phase Five, one of its fan-favorite series Daredevil will have another season called Daredevil: Born Again. The series will see the return of Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock and his iconic role. Though the name Born Again suggests the series digging deeper into his past life, Cox confirmed that the series will be taking a different route.

New Plot in Daredevil: Born Again

During an interview with i, Daredevil actor Charlie Cox says that “as many have assumed”, the name Born Again was most probably given as its return following the cancellation of the Netflix series and states, “I don’t think anyone should read into the name as to the kind of stories that we’re going to tell”.

He later also adds that just because the title matches the plot of the Marvel Comics story written by Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli in 1986, the fans shouldn’t assume it will follow the route.

In November 2018, Netflix canceled the series after three seasons, though the character will be available for later MCU projects, Cox was disheartened by the news, especially because he was excited about the fourth season. Following the cancellation, fans from all over the globe signed a petition amasses over 300,000 signatures.

Daredevil: Born Again will be far from a one-to-one adaptation of Miller and Mazzucchelli’s Born Again. It is more of a remix and created in such a way that fits in with what Netflix’s Daredevil and the crossover limited series The Defenders had already established.

Charlie Cox’s Role As Matt Murdock in Daredevil

Matthew “Matt” Murdock is the role portrayed by Charlie Cox in the MCU as Daredevil. Murdock is a lawyer by day who specializes in legal defense and crime-fighting, masquerading as a vigilante hoping to remove corruption in Hell’s Kitchen at night. He is supported by his colleagues Foggy Nelson and Karen Page.

Even though Murdock is blind, it does not stop him from kicking his opponents’ asses both in court and over rooftops at night. Due to his training, Murdock developed senses sharper than any other individual up to superhuman levels. His extraordinary agility and quick response and reflex can only prove his prowess on the battlefield.

His night activities eventually lead him to face Wilson Fisk and he also teamed up with the Defenders to face the Hand Organisation when they successfully resurrected and weaponized his past lover Elektra Natchios. He then later helped Peter Parker in a legal case showing his extraordinary prowess in the legal field.

Daredevil: Born Again will be released in 2024.
