DCU fans have had an eventful year because, initially planned for HBO Max, the Blue Beetle project moved to a theatrical release scheduled for August 18, 2023. Despite the recent WGA and SAG Strike, Warner Bros. seems intent on sticking to the release date for Blue Beetle.
On April 3, 2023, the first Blue Beetle trailer was released, which offered a glimpse into Jaime’s transformation into Blue Beetle. The trailer depicted the teenager merging with the alien scarab which gives off a serious Venom vibe. Fortunately, there are a few key figures like Zack Snyder who are lending their support to the film.
Zack Snyder is Hyped to See Blue Beetle With His Kids
While the current co-CEO of DC Studios, James Gunn, has praised Blue Beetle, former DC directors Zack Snyder and David Ayer are also excited about it. Even though Zack Snyder is not making DC movies anymore, he shared his enthusiasm on July 30th about one of the DC movies:
“Looking forward to taking my kids to see Blue Beetle. #RepresentationMatters #BlueBeetle”
The tweet was accompanied by a picture of Blue Beetle himself, set to be played by Cobra Kai’s Xolo Maridueña in the DC film. Suicide Squad director David Ayer then retweeted Snyder with the hands-up emoji.
Despite Being the DCU CEO, James Gunn Gave a Reserved Reaction to Blue Beetle
The release of Blue Beetle is near, and it seems like DC Studios’ co-chair and co-CEO, James Gunn isn’t excited about it. Earlier, Gunn was the one who confirmed that Blue Beetle is the first entry into his reimagined world of supers, and now other DC filmmakers, including Zack Snyder, have also expressed their exhilaration, there are not any positive steps seen from DCU CEO toward the upcoming release. On 12th July, he took to Twitter and posted:
“I am unbelievably excited for Metamorpho (and this opportunity to work with Anthony Carrigan.)”
Is he only excited about Metamorpho? Since then, he hasn’t posted anything about Blue Beetle on X (formerly Twitter). He only supported the movie by resharing Snyder’s post, but that’s not what fans expect from his side.
Yesterday on 11th August, he posted a poster of Blue Beetle, including a link to buy tickets and writing, “Get your tickets to #BlueBeetle now.“
Obviously, fans didn’t expect this late tweet from Gunn; therefore, one user commented on his post: “FINALLY YOU TWEET.” While another commented, adding laughing emoji to her comment, “I love the fact that he is just ignoring … I think that the best thing he can do right now.”
