The art of storytelling through the lens of a camera is much harder than anyone would believe. And so much more to tell when one completely encapsulates the audience into its narration and the world it’s creating. Thus, when the name Martin Scorsese is associated with a major Hollywood project, people are sure that they would receive something truly extraordinary.

With so many of his timeless masterpieces becoming part of the prestigious history of cinema, there is no doubt when it comes to his ability to invoke a sense of finesse and grandeur through his projects. But when there were plenty more that got the same reaction from the audience, fans started to question the value of this honor.

The world of cinema is vast and unfathomable, it grows every single passing minute with someone or the other bringing something new to the table. But sticking to his almost-perfect technique and nature of storytelling, Martin Scorsese has immortalized himself as one of the greatest directors of all time. After the screening of Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon starring Leonardo DiCaprio, the audience at the film festival were dp amazed by the film, that the director along with the cast, received a 9-minute-long standing ovation from them. Although this is a matter of pride for the filmmaker, the internet has a different outlook on the entire situation.

Seeing as standing ovations are reserved for films that defy expectations and truly differentiate themselves from the rest, it seems a little too upsetting that not just Scorsese, but Johnny Depp’s Jeanne Du Barry and Julianne Moore’s May December received the ovations from the audience. Thus, many have pointed out the diminishing value of this honor.

Many have also concluded that if this trend goes on, then the value of a standing ovation will cease to be in the coming future.

Bringing back a part of history for the modern audience, Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon retells the story of the murder of the members of the Osage Tribe belonging to the native Red Indians of America after huge oil reserves were found beneath their land. Adapted from David Grann’s book of the same name, the tale outlines the nature of human greed and just how twisted it can make a person who is caught in its grasp.
