Katie Holmes Discussed Her Divorce And Moving To New York
It is never easy to get divorced. It can be mentally exhausting, emotionally taxing, and expensive. It can be a nightmare, though, if your ex-spouse is one of the biggest movie stars in the world.
Following her divorce from Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes discovered herself in the center of a vicious media storm, with millions of people all over the world eagerly awaiting news of her split. The actress thus, made the bold decision to move to New York in her quest for independence.
Actually, the media focused heavily on Holmes’ separation from Cruise. The 44-year-old actress and her ex-husband made the decision to keep their divorce a secret, which led to unending rumors. As a result, the All We Had actress discovered that she was constantly being pursued by throngs of paparazzi.
While moving to a big city in the midst of this media struggle appeared to have benefited Holmes and her daughter, Suri Cruise. It was a drastic change, giving them a much-needed fresh start.
During a conversation with InStyle, the mother of one recalled the welcoming nature of New Yorkers toward her and her daughter, saying:
“So many people I didn’t know became my friends and helped us out.”
The Batman Begins actress then related a touching story about how a New York cab driver saved her from a sticky situation involving her daughter:
“Suri was 6 or 7, and she was spending the night at a friend’s house while I was seeing the ballet at Lincoln Center.”

New York Is Katie Holmes’ Favorite
Katie Holmes finally had the chance to take advantage of all the perks of the city, now that her divorce from Tom Cruise was behind her. She has been residing in Chelsea, New York, since 2012. Unfortunately, her relocation to the city has not completely protected her from bad press.
She told InStyle:
“Yes, it is a little too exposed at times. We work hard to maneuver and navigate. But what I love about New York is that for me and my child, this is our vibe.”
Thus, Holmes and her 17-year-old daughter are relishing every second of their new life in New York despite the never-ending media attention.
Holmes discussed their time in New York in an interview with E! News, saying:
“New York has been very good to both of us. I love the theater, the galleries in my neighborhood. Stuff [like] that is so much of what makes me love this city. I love the Knicks. I love talking to my neighbors in the elevator. I like feeling a part of something big.”
Despite the challenges she encountered, the actress came out of the divorce as a confident and strong woman. Since then, she has maintained a flourishing acting career and has developed into a supporter of causes close to her heart.
Even though the divorce was difficult, she showed she was more than able to handle the stress.
