Dates as early as 2013, when Disney purchased Lucasfilms, rumors emerged in full flight about Snyder’s involvement with Star Wars. Further, the filmmaker himself appeared on the Happy Sad Confused podcast and revealed how his film was set to take place separate from the Skywalker saga. However, eventually, it was revealed Disney turned down Snyder’s idea of a spinoff.

My idea was just: give me the keys and I’ll take her for a spin” Zack Snyder stated.

However, although the pitch never made progress, the project didn’t appear dead. Constantly working on the script, Zack Snyder tried to keep his idea alive by re-developing the concept, over and over again. “I’ve been working on it, just away from the Star Wars universe, just on my own as a sci-fi thing” Snyder explained.
