Percy Jackson and The Olympians author Rick Riordan revealed that they have almost covered half of the novel. The rights to the Percy Jackson series were acquired by Disney in 2019, and the series adaptation was greenlit in 2022.

The novel series had two popular movie adaptations: The Lightning Thief in 2010 and The Sea of Monsters in 2013. Starring Logan Lerman, Alexandra Daddario, and Brandon T. Jackson, the films were criticized for being unfaithful to the source material. After the second movie came out, the whole franchise was scrapped.

Thankfully, a brand-new Percy Jackson series has risen and will be adapted to television starring Walker Scobell as Percy, Leah Sava Jeffries as Annabeth Chase, and Aryan Simhadri as Grover Underwood. On top of that, Riordan will be directly involved in the creative process as opposed to the movies. He will oversee the production as the executive producer and writer.

Percy Jackson Series Filming Update From The Author

Riordan constantly gives updates about the development of the Percy Jackson series on his blog. In his post a few weeks back, he stated that they have covered almost half of the book. Here’s what the author posted:

How much Percy content have we covered? Put it this way: If you were following along in the book, we have pretty much filmed through chapter nine in The Lightning Thief. That’s a big chunk of the story, but there is a massive amount of fun and games still to come! And yes, the filming has followed the book story very closely, almost as if the author were involved himself!

Since the update was posted a couple of weeks ago, fans can assume that they have finally filmed half of the story. The novel consists of 22 chapters, and assuming they have done the entirety of Chapter 9, the production team is most likely working past that by now.
