Ryan Reynolds made his debut as the Marvel character Deadpool in the 2016 film and is set to reprise his character in the upcoming threequel of the series Deadpool 3. The film is currently in development and will also mark not only his but also Hugh Jackman’s official entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The anticipation for the third installment in the franchise has only increased after Reynolds announced that the X-Men actor would be joining the cast of the movie.
However, fans might not feel the same about the recent update about the Deadpool threequel, as one of the favorite characters from the series is reportedly not reprising his role in the threequel.
Josh Brolin Not Returning as Cable in Deadpool 3
While fans are excited about Hugh Jackman’s return and to finally see Wolverine and Deadpool together on the screen, there have also been discussions surrounding Josh Brolin’s Deadpool character. The actor is known for portraying Cable in Ryan Reynold’s Deadpool 2 and also for starring as the supervillain Thanos in the MCU.
There have been speculations that the actor might not reprise his character in the next Deadpool movie. And the industry scooper MyTimeToShineHello has also claimed that Cable would not return in Deadpool 3. The scooper has claimed that he can confirm “no Cable in Deadpool 3.”
However, his time machine, which was used by Wade Wilson in the post-credit scene of the 2018 movie, would have a prominent role. The news comes as a disappointment to the fans as Brolin has had prominent roles in Deadpool and the MCU.
The Ryan Reynolds feature is known to have in-joke references and easter eggs. And considering the Dune actor’s involvement with the MCU, fans were hoping for in-joke references to his MCU character Thanos in Deadpool 3. Although the news is not confirmed yet, fans have already shared their disappointment online.
Fans Disappointed With the Deadpool 3 Update
As fans discuss Josh Brolin’s return as Cable, the actor addressed his possible comeback in a Deadpool film series. He has said that he enjoyed portraying the character of the cybernetic soldier in the 2018 movie. However, he was not sure what the studio had planned for his Deadpool character.
“Deadpool was supposed to be four movies. Maybe there’ll be more. I don’t know what Marvel has in store,” he said during an interview. And as the news broke out that Brolin might not reprise his role as Cable in the threequel, fans have shared their disappointment.
They are questioning if the movie would at least mention Cable or Brolin’s MCU character Thanos. Many even stated that they would rather have Cable in the movie instead of all the cameos it is expected to feature. Fans also shared that they were expecting to see a cameo from Thanos as well, which seems unlikely, as per the alleged news.
Deadpool 3 is set to release on 3 May 2024.
