A Real-Life Love Triangle Between the Leads
One of the biggest arcs of friendship in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man is between Peter Parker and Harry Osbourne. In Raimi’s adaptation, the two best friends became bitter enemies. But just as there was tension in the movie with their friendship, there was also a bit of tension between the co-stars – Tobey Maguire and James Franco.
James Franco later revealed that he had a thing for Kristen Dunst, who played the role of Mary Jane, the fierce reporter and also the love interest of Maguire’s Spiderman. These certain circumstances led to a bit of rivalry behind the scenes in Spider-Man.

Sam Raimi also commented on this matter stating,
“I didn’t know that,” Raimi said. “Gee, that’s just like the movie…and he (Maguire) was getting Kirsten like the script said he should.”
