If you’re anything like us, you probably spent the weekend deeply immersed in the Straw Hat Pirates’ quest to discover the ‘One Piece’ in Netflix’s adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s original manga, One Piece.
In Netflix’s live-action adaptation, pirate Monkey D. Luffy (Iñaki Godoy) and his crew, including Nami (Emily Rudd), Zoro (Mackenyu Arata), Usopp (Jacob Romero Gibson), and Sanji (Taz Skylar), embark on a journey to locate the elusive ‘One Piece’ of treasure, which would grant Luffy the title of ‘King of the Pirates.’ However, this is no straightforward voyage, and the Straw Hat Pirates encounter numerous adversaries and challenges along the way.
So, does Luffy succeed in finding the One Piece? And what unfolds at the conclusion of the series? Here’s all the information you need to know.
Does Luffy Discover ‘One Piece’ in the Manga/Anime Series?
The primary objective of the series for Luffy and his crew is to locate the invaluable treasure known as the ‘One Piece,’ which grants the title of ‘King of the Pirates’ to whoever discovers it.
Based on the manga series of the same name initiated by Eiichiro Oda in 1997, the anime series has not yet revealed the conclusion of the Straw Hat Pirates’ journey, where, supposedly, they’ll discover the One Piece treasure.
Despite being a central mystery and a significant motivator for the story, Oda has deliberately maintained the shroud of mystery surrounding One Piece throughout the series.
Even the original manga series has not unveiled whether Luffy and his crew have found the ‘One Piece.’ It appears there are countless more adventures in store for the Straw Hat Pirates before the treasure hunt reaches its conclusion.
In the Netflix adaptation, the Straw Hat Pirates have only just embarked on their quest, and as of the first season, they have not found the treasure. This is understandable, especially considering it’s the initial season, and fans are hopeful for many more seasons of the series to follow.
Despite the treasure not being found, there’s still a lot that takes place in the final episode of One Piece on Netflix that could pave the way for Season 2.
The Mysterious Character in the Final Episode of the Season
In the last episode of the series, when Luffy fights with Arlong the Fishman, Luffy maximizes his powers to the fullest, causing the map tower to be destroyed, burying both himself and Arlong. Somehow, Luffy survives the fall. But what of Arlong?
If you’ve read the original manga, you’ll know that, indeed, Arlong survives. Whether fans will witness his return in a potential second season remains uncertain.
The concluding scene of the series features an enigmatic figure wearing a fur coat, and smoking a cigar. The mysterious person is gazing at Luffy’s wanted poster and proceeds to burn a hole through Luffy’s eyes on the poster.
Fans of the original manga are likely well aware that this mysterious figure is most probably Smoker, one of the Straw Hats’ significant adversaries. Thus, it’s likely that he will be the foe they’ll confront in the upcoming season of the series.
