Hugh Grant is one of the quintessential actors of the 90s, starring in many memorable and beloved rom-coms of the 90s and the early 2000s. He is also known to be a clever, well-spoken, and funny individual who enjoys a laugh or two. His various anecdotes regarding his life and career during talk shows are largely enjoyed by audiences, largely because of his hilarious manner of narrating his experiences. He has a very nonchalant manner of expressing his opinions or his expressions regarding various things that make him a very charming and funny fellow. One of his hilarious anecdotes involved hot dogs and his appetite which left him in trouble.
Hugh Grant’s Love for Nathan’s Hot Dogs Proved Fatal
In an appearance on The Late Late Show With James Corden, actor Hugh Grant recalled an incident that involved him eating a specific type of hot dog that was popular at the place he was shooting at. He loved it so much that he consumed some more of it. This landed him in an embarrassing and troubling situation later in front of his crew. He hilariously recalled,
“In Coney Island, New York, I was shooting a film with Sandra Bullock and at lunch time they all said, ‘Oh, well, you must have a Nathan’s hot dog. They’re famous,’ Right-o, you know, when in Rome. So I went off and had a Nathan’s hot dog and it was the most delicious thing I’ve ever eaten in my life. So I thought I’ll have another!”
He ended up having four of the hot dogs. But later, the ingredients present in the hot dog made him uncomfortable and affected his digestive system. He continued,
“But what no one explained to me is that there’s some ingredient that has an effect on a digestive system, famously with these hot dogs. So I was, to put it delicately, very late back to the make-up trailer. When I got there, they said, ‘Are you okay?’ and I said ‘I’m not sure my Nathan Hot Dogs agreed with me’. And it was a Brooklyn makeup girl and she said, ‘What, did it blow your a** out?’ and I said ‘Yes, it blew my a** out.'”
It seems that Hugh Grant took too much of a good thing that later evolved into an embarrassing situation that included a hilarious encounter with his makeup artist. James Corden and Chris Pine could not control their laughter hearing the wildly hilarious anecdote.
Hugh Grant has a Knack for Narrating Hilarious Stories in a Deadpan Manner
It is hilarious to see how Hugh Grant narrates this particular story. His expression throughout narrating the anecdote seems that he is quite reluctant to remember and tell something that did not paint him in a dignified way but rather put him in an embarrassing one. But he tells with such a serious and nonchalant way that makes the narration even more funny than it already is.
One can see the understandable but hilarious disappointment Grant feels with himself regarding the incident. Yet, he shares the anecdote as plain and simple in his pure British way that is charming and funny to witness. Grant’s story makes him relatable as any regular person, despite being a big name in Hollywood.
