Dead Reckoning – Part One was released in July 2023. The star cast of the film includes Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt, alongside Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Vanessa Kirby, Esai Morales, Pom Klementieff, Mariela Garriga, and Henry Czerny. It’s a spy action film directed by Christopher McQuarrie. Its screenplay is written by McQuarrie and Erik Jendresen. The action film was made with a budget of $291 million, which is exorbitant in comparison to average movie budgets.

As per the Numbers, Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning – Part One has turned out to be the 15th most expensive film made ever. The spy action film’s budget has surpassed some high-grossing films like James Bond’s No Time To Die, Guardians of the Galaxy 3, Spider-man 3, Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and many others.

The film may have surpassed these films, however, several other films had a budget higher than the MI film. The film topping the list is Star Wars: The Force Awakens at $447 million. Next to it is 2018’s Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, with a budget of $432 million. Other famous films that have worked with gigantic budgets include the Avengers franchise, Avatar: The Way of Water, Fast X, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Justice League, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and others.

There is very disappointing news for the fans of the fans of the MI franchise. The film released about a month ago, has finally completed its theatrical run, and the numbers are out. As per the Numbers, the film has earned $560 million globally. It is one of the heavy-budget films of the year and was expected to earn a lot more. Reportedly, the film has been a box-office disappointment, with an estimated loss of approximately $40 million for Paramount. As per Variety, it would have to gross at least $600 million worldwide to break even.

Box office ranking of Mission Impossible 7 in the MI franchise

Tom Cruise’s first Mission Impossible film was released in 2006, which did amazing business at the box office, making a gross income of $457 million. There are seven installments released to date, and all of them have managed to win the hearts of the fans. If we rank the franchise films as per the gross earnings by each one of them, then Mission Impossible 7 is not the biggest hit at the box office.

Mission: Impossible—Fallout, featuring Cruise and Henry Cavill, is the highest-grossing film in the franchise, with an income of $786 million. Next to MI- Fallout is Mission: Impossible—Ghost Protocol, released in 2011, which grossed $694 million. The recently released film MI 7 ranks as the fourth highest-grossing in the franchise.

Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning – Part 2 will be released in theatres on 28 June 2024.
