Tom Hanks has no shortage of range when it comes to doing some of the most iconic and unique movies. He has had the opportunity to work with celebrated actors as well as directors. Not only is he a person loved by many, but he too loves his fans just as equally. For his talent and skill, he has won various awards which he rightfully deserves.
With the very many awards that he has won, the actor managed to grab an Oscar for Philadelphia. The actor has played an array of characters who are all loved by the fans. However, one movie had a scene that needed to be cut. Coincidentally enough, the scene had something similar to his role in Denzel Washington’s film.
The Deleted Scene From Tom Hanks’s That Thing You Do!
That Thing You Do! followed Tom Hanks in a film that fused both jazz and pop-rock in the late 90s. The film got a lot of praise from the critics and was just as adored by the fans. However, there was one scene in the film that had to ultimately be cut from the film. The scene had a hint of Hanks’ character being gay; something that was rather similar to his character in Philadelphia.
“Oh don’t look so sad, Lloyd. We’ll be fashionably late,” he calls. “That’s it, I’m off duty. Are you happy? I can’t just shirk these responsibilities, Lloyd.”
The scene in question included Hanks’ Mr. White meeting up with a drunk Guy who was loitering around aimlessly, walking towards a waitress’s convertible. In the deleted part, Hanks waves at a guy who is wearing a tuxedo but gets no response whatsoever. Although it was not forced upon and was rather subtle, the hint was clear enough. The scene being deleted makes sense because of the lack of significance it had. Moreover, the character of Llyod does not even appear again.
Charlize Theron Did Not Audition For The Role She Got
When the auditions for That Thing You Do! started, Charlize Theron was one of the first people to audition for the film. In fact, she showed up on the very day auditions started. Not only did she audition for a completely different role, but she was also one of the first people to get hired for the film.
“Listen, I know I can play Tina, but I want to play Faye.”
Even though it was a huge deal, Theron did not like working on the film. She wanted to do something much more than what she got to do and the opportunity was nothing special to her.
