Despite Starring in $1.5B Avengers Movie, Cobie Smulders Says ‘Secret Invasion’ Portrays Maria Hill Better: “Most depth I’ve been able to show of Maria Hill”

Cobie Smulders makes a comeback as Maria Hill in the Disney+ series Secret Invasion, which is about an army of shape-shifting aliens who infiltrated every corner of Earth.

The actor wouldn’t disclose her role in the much-awaited thriller, which is scheduled to premiere on June 21, 2023. However, she did discuss how the six-episode show allowed her to show more depth to the character that she’s been portraying for years

Secret Invasion Will Show Her Character’s More Depth, Says Cobie Smulders

Cobie Smulders, who plays the lead in Secret Invasion, has spoken candidly about her part in Marvel’s project and provided a small teaser for the series. Secret Invasion, according to Smulders, is “the greatest depth I’ve been able to display of Maria Hill.”

It’s the most depth I’ve been able to show of Maria Hill. That’s the beauty of these series that Marvel is doing, you’re able to really get the backstory of these characters. What are the conversations that happen when they’re just sitting around drinking coffee? It’s not like, ‘We’ve gotta get the bad guys! We’ve gotta get the thing! We’ve gotta save the world again!’ It’s like, ‘Let’s just have a chat, let’s go for a walk.’ We get to see those kinds of moments and be a bit more intimate with the characters.

The TV series is set to feature an all-star cast, including Emilia Clarke, Kingsley Ben-Adir, and Olivia Colman along with Samuel L. Jackson, Martin Freeman, and Ben Mendelsohn reprising their MCU roles.

Marvel Studios’ Secret Invasion: The Plot

The Disney+ series, which was announced in December 2020 and based on the 2008 Marvel Comics crossover of the same name follows a group of Skrulls that have invaded every facet of life on Earth. Kyle Bradstreet is the series writer and executive producer and directed by Ali Selim.

The antagonists from Captain Marvel in 2019—the Skrulls—will be the focus of the story of Secret Invasion. Ben-Adir will portray Rebel Skrull Leader Gravik, and Mendelsohn will reprise his role as the shape-shifting Talos. Jackson’s Nick Fury partners up with Talos in an effort to prevent the Skrulls from infiltrating the highest levels of Earth’s government.

With only six episodes and a lot more characters to assist, Maria should ideally at least get one highlight episode or a few significant scenes that are eventually rewarding.

Secret Invasion premieres on June 21, 2023, on Disney+
