It is no secret that Henry Cavill rose to next-level stardom with his Superman role in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). Since he first donned the red cape in 2013, he continued to win over fans’ hearts but it eventually came to an end when James Gunn and Peter Safran, the new co-CEOs of DC Studios announced their plan for the franchise’s future.
While his exit was quite unexpected, Gunn revealed his reasons for replacing Cavill. David Corenswet entered the franchise replacing the former for the superhero role but his version of ‘younger’ Superman turns out to be older than Cavill when the star debuted in Man of Steel.
James Gunn Revealed David Corenswet’s Superman Age
He wrote on Twitter,
“Among those on the slate is Superman. In the initial stages, our story will be focusing on an earlier part of Superman’s life, so the character will not be played by Henry Cavill.”
When he clarified that the new slate will focus on the earlier part of Superman’s life, fans started speculating about the age of the younger version. Now, Gunn has reportedly answered this curiosity as well.

With his tweet, it becomes clear that the new Superman will be of the same age as David Corenswet. However, Corenswet’s Superman version would now become older than Cavill when he portrayed the role in 2013.
David Corenswet’s Superman Will Be Older Than Henry Cavill in Man of Steel
Given that the production of the 2025 film, Superman: Legacy is set to kickstart throughout the first half of 2024, by the time, Corenswet will begin filming, he will be older than The Witcher star. Cavill was just 29 when he was filming the 2013 film, Man of Steel.
As for the new son of Krypton, he is 31 this July 8 which means he will be 32 by the time film releases in theatres. Initially reports suggested that the superhero would be somewhere around 25 years, however, Gunn shot down the claims stating “All [he] ever said was Superman was younger than in his forties.”
With his statement, it became clear that Cavill would be out of the chapter if he were to portray Clark Kent. But, he has also opened up about discussing “exciting possibilities” with DC alum which left hope for fans that Cavill might return somewhere in the future.
As for the new film, Superman: Legacy, it is set to launch the new DCU. It is expected to hit theatres on July 11, 2025.
